They really would relieve some of the expectations' weight off their collective artistic shoulders could they be more relaxed and release actually unfinished material, not just trying to finish THE ALBUM all the time, pissing off once patient fans :-D Plus where's the fun?!

And why are there no B-Sides anymore? There was a time long ago, when they had short albums worth of B-Sides with albums, and of considerable quality too... Who's keeping those back? What's going on?!

B-sides are not profitable. Expect a U2 Greatest  (with a "limited edition set of b-sides) 2000-2010 in early 2011. All you have to do is look at what they did the last two grt hits albums to know...

I hope that Songs of Ascent takes their time over this Spiderman cr^p.

Yeah, they aren't, but they were the sole reason for reasonable fans to buy their singles.
They'll definitely release a greatest hits with B-sides though, but there aren't any original B-sides at all at the moment with No Line, and there weren't many off the last two records either. Big Girls are Best, Always, Neon Lights (and I'm being generous here, as with the predictable inclusion of "I believe in Father Christmas", and maybe "Tower of Song" from "I'm Your Man" the Leonard Cohen tribute...) Are You Gonna Wait Forever (this sounds like a nineties leftover, that shouldn't have been found) and that's all, I guess...  Nothing like Achtung Baby or The Joshua Tree, or even Rattle and Hum...
The rest are remixes and some boring live versions (nobody mention the extended solo- version of Kite, it wasn't a really good solo to begin with, Edge is better than that) which won't really matter much, 'cause there are numerous official live DVD's and also Youtube to archive proshot live TV appearances, not to mention good quality fan videos from the 360° tour.

I know this was off topic, by the way, but I had to opine.

I am banking on unreleased b-sides from the last couple of albums. Just b/c they haven't released any new songs on their singles doesnt mean they dont have music on the shelf. I feel the lack of singles for NLOTH is because they have so much music to tinker with for Songs For The Ascent... Why release b-sides when you can polish them up and put them on the new record!? And you are right their last few b-sides have been cr<p. I did like the remixes from the Propaganda days... But 'Big Girls Are Best'? lol No thanks... Neon Lights was okay, I understand that song was an homage for Kraftwerk and all... I still prefer their version over U2's.

'Tower of Song' was a good cover, but I doubt it will be on the b-sides.

For the record my last favorite b-side they composed was 'Alex Descends Into Hell For A Bottle Of Milk'.... That song for me is something special.

For me, from the single released ones, it was Happiness is a Warm Gun and Slow Dancing with Willie Nelson.

off topic sorry

but yeah brought most the singles in the nineties..my favourite was the epic Lady with the spinning head remix with the huge lead break..aaaawwweessooommmmmeeeee

disappointed with the singles off bomb remixes and stuff so haven't bothered with no line singles.

Must be the digital age. By the way listened to passengers last night on the way to band practise with the radio pumping and on came always forever. What a song..had goosebumps

Oops, forgot about Summer Rain, which is of course my fave released B-side from the 2000's... Cool one.

The very title of this thread scares me. Everyone who is saying that they said this (and everything else they have been saying lately) right after bomb are dead on. I'm not freaking out or hating the band, but I am just aware that it will be years before the next album... hopefully just 2

Funny though, how the thread title applies more now than it did in 2009  :D

I would be shocked if it came out this year.

They will likely do the AB remaster set and then start working on the new album early next year for a Fall 2012 release.
