I hated most of the Joshua tree , but like so many of their tracks , hearing live versions made me do a complete U turn.

There is something so raw and genuine about live versions when they are performed well that give songs more of a soul compare to sanitised studio version recordings.

I think I still preferred the live track versions though for the Joshua tree rather than the CD ones. Hence I love Rattle and Hum more than the Joshua tree.

This will sound crazy, but I originally disliked With or Without You the first few times I heard it. Now it's one of my favorite songs. In the past I disliked In A Little While, Unknown Caller, and most of the music on War. Now I like those songs and I will voluntarily listen to War. I also used to find most of Zooropa boring... I love it now.

I don't know. Someone told me to listen to it more, so I did, and it got to be one of my favorite albums. I just realized it has amazing flow and works well on car rides and when doing homework, and then I realized I was playing it nearly every day.

I probably didn't like it at first because I listened to the songs all out of order...

Zooropa is definitely a freaky album at first. When I first listened to it, I was an ATYCLB and Joshua Tree fan only, and its approach unsettled and scared me, frankly.

That's how I felt when I saw clips of PopMart for the first time... and I still can't get into that tour because the videos freaked me out the first time.

I'd listen to Boots over the likes of Party Girl or The Refugee any day of the week but that's just me.

Well, I'd say we're splitting hairs between some of U2's lesser songs, but I at least appreciate the others you mentioned for their youthful exuberance and endearing awkwardness, more than Boots's attempt to replicate Vertigo's lead-off single success and whiff of old guys desperately trying to stay current.  That said, Boots is actually among NLOTH's better songs, whereas Refugee is probably War's worst.

Almost anything on October except Tomorrow (I loved that song initially).  That was my first early U2 album to own after having AB, Zooropa, JT, and UF.  I had hear songs from War via live recordings, but October was the first album I purchased of the first three.  I think I was put off by the lack of a Sunday Bloody Sunday or New Years Day type song.  I was also put off by songs like Scarlet, Is That All, and I Fall Down.  The only songs I really liked were Tomorrow and October.

I think I shifted my views on the album after filling out their studio album discography (c. 1998) and becoming more aware of the message in the lyrics of October as well as becoming a huge fan of Boy.  The final push came with obtaining the Fire single, which I just love.  From that era, one of my favorite U2 songs of all is 11 O'Clock Tick Tock, and I regret that it never showed up as an album track.  I think I would have fell in love with the album right away if that song would have been there to begin with.

Most of October, as well as Miami and The Playboy Mansion (though I don't actually love them).

Yes.

Also Hawkmoon 269, which I used to detest until I saw videos of it live.

How anyone can like Miami is completely beyond me. I just don't get it. Same goes for Playboy Mansion, but Miami even more.
