Dublin shows anyone?
« on: March 16, 2009, 02:25:09 PM »
I'm really thinking of going to one of the Dublin shows... but the problem is I don't have anyone to go with me.  ;D My friends are joining me at another show, but don't have the money (or don't want) to go to Dublin as well.

Soooo... anyone else have the same problem? Maybe we could make a group out of us 'solitary' people and hang out / meet up before (and during) the show?

Please post here if you're interested  8)

I'm interested, as I am 20 and none of my mates like U2 and defo wouldn't pay 135 euro for a ticket, kinda sucks

Are you seated or standing, I am bidding on a red zone also for the 25th

Hi Davey, i don't think i'll be able to meet you...as i'm up in the Hogan Stand!

Yeah, i got up at 5am this morning...got the bus into Dublin city centre, and i started queueing roughly about 6:00am...there was at least a hundred or so people ahead of me in the queue...i was queueing for 4 hours...i tell you Davey, i though it was going to be sold out at 9:30am!

...luckliy there was Stand tickets still available by the time i got to the counter at 9:50am...so i've got 2 tickets for the Hogan Stand upper in Croke Park for the Saturday gig, i'm going with my mate....i'll be up in the heavens watching the gig, but i couldn't care less as the gig was on the way to being totally sold out.

I'm just happy to be in the stadium for the Saturday U2 gig!....could have ended up with no tickets at all.
I'm delighted i've got tickets. ;D

The Irish media are saying that 164,00 tickets sold out in a hour here in Dublin.

By the way i was queueing at the Stephens Green shopping centre, anybody else there this morning??

Davey, did you see the big lad at the top of the queue with the pony-tail?...looked like he was wearing an 'Elevation' t-shirt, he had a seat with him?

..oh, by the way...i saw myself in the Star newspaper yesterday in the queue!....i was shielding my eyes from the sun about half way down...did you see that girl who was standing on the seat taking photos also, Davey?

Now that I've the all nighter queue up and the Irish Rubgy celebrations out of my system, back on track now! :)

Has anyone any opinion to offer on my observation here after by U2 queue up last Thursday night:

 - I arrived in at 7.30 for my vertigo tickets and the queue was long enough in 2005. Plus there were quite alot of younger people in the queue back then (16-20 year olds). This year, everyone seemed to be in the 30s plus. Also, I arrived in at 5.30pm thius year, and there was only about 30 people ahead of me. By 7.30pm (the time I arrived last time), only three or people has arrived. People who arrived at 6am the next morning managed to get tickets (albeit up in the upper stand)

 - I read in Sat's paper that NLOTH sold approx 400,000 copies in its first week, as opposed to over 800,000 for the same period of HTDAB. Even given the "accidential" release of NLOTH, this is a huge drop.

Even though the Dublin gigs sold out, people were slower to come in and queue, and mainly people in their 30s and older that did this time. Purchases of the album were far slower (after the immediate rush) this time round as well.

Any ideas?

I'm probably stating the bleedin' obvious here, Davey...but i suspect that a hell of a lot of people tried to buy tickets on-line, but whatever way you look at it...to sell out 164,00 tickets in 40 minutes by whatever means is still extremely impressive for U2 to do, even at this stage of their careers.

As regards people being slower to come in to queue, you're dead right, you've hit the head on the head there. I think the people who queued from the previous days, and the people like me who came into queue at the crack of dawn on the Friday are probably the die-hard U2 fans.

I would have queued from the day before but i just couldn't get the day off work. :D

Fair point. ;)

I know that there's 20 ticketmaster/ticketron outlets in the Dublin area, and whatever nationwide...so unless there was major queues at the other 19 locations? Just speculating. ???
