u2.com subscription update
ian ryan:
Got this email today:
With the band in the studio writing and recording new songs, it looks like 2009 is going to be a big year for U2. It's also going to be a big year for U2.Com: the site is going to have a whole new look and feel, and we're going to have a whole lot of new music to talk about.
As we're still finalizing the details of our 2009 Subscription offer, we're holding off on our usual invitation to you about this time of year to resubscribe to U2.Com.
But don't worry! If your subscription is set to expire in the next couple of months, we're going to automatically extend it until the launch of the new offer. We'll be writing to you again with details of the 2009 subscription package.
Thanks for being part of the U2.Com community. Now check out the latest behind-the-scenes videos that the band have been shooting for U2.Com.
best wishes.
U2.Com Team
Is it bad that they still don't have their crap together or good that the delay might be because they're setting up something special for the tour, a la advanced tickets?
Falling At Your Feet:
This information could have been sent a lot earlier to avoid the mass confusion, but at least we have it now.
One good thing is we don't have to renew now, giving people a chance to see what the new membership package is first, and then deciding to renew or not.

Why would anyone not resubscribe in a tour year?
Falling At Your Feet:
Well, do you not remember what happened in 2005 ?
To recap:
Lots of members were not happy at all the way the ticket presale was handled, in fact this forum(old one) was full of hundreads of posts complaining about the situation, it got so bad that u2.com offerered members their money back, and many took the money back.
2nd point is that there is NO guarantee that participation in a presale will automatically come with being a member. When the website opened up first, this was a specifically stated membership benefit of participation in presales, but in 2006 when the next membership package was announced this was specifically excluded from the membership benefit list.
So a lot of people were burned, so to speak and want to see exactly what they are getting, what the conditions are etc.

I remember 2005. I waited until the third leg to use my presale because I knew how insane it would be to try during the first leg. Sure enough, Larry stepped in to fix things for those of us who were Propaganda members and I literally had an entire day to pluck any pair of GA tickets to any show on the third leg. It was awesome.
I realize it could all be a mess again or not even come to pass, but I feel it's just silly to remain a member all this time and then not re-register when we know (as much as we can know with no official word) that the band will be touring this coming year and the site is likely to offer pre-sale tickets to those fortunate enough to get in.
The site will never say that being a member gets you a presale code or even a shot at it, but common sense sure points to that being the case.
