In October 2008, we launched this new forum that you're reading now. Our old forum software served us well, but was old and didn't provide enough user and admin features to let us build a strong, active community. We're excited about the capabilities of this new forum -- many of which we're still learning ourselves!

As always, if you have questions or need help using the Forum, click the "Help" link up near the top or post a question in the "Help Desk" board.

About the @U2 Forum

Registration is free. You may view the Forum messages without registering, but registration is required to actively take part in any discussion. By registering, you agree to the rules and policies listed here.

We have several moderators who are here to help users and make sure everyone is playing nicely; they're also here to enjoy and take part in the discussions on the boards.

We don't review messages before they're posted. However, all users and moderators are able to review and flag questionable messages. Messages that are deemed to not meet the guidelines of this TOS may be edited or removed at our discretion. If we all work to keep the Forum running smoothly, it will be more enjoyable for everyone. Neither @U2 nor our hosting provider will be held responsible for the content of any message.

Our Common Sense Rules

By registering, you agree that you will not post any message that is obscene, vulgar, hateful, threatening, inflammatory, disrespectful, or otherwise violates any laws. In other words: Be nice. Respect other users, respect the moderators, and respect the Forum system. Personal attacks and flaming will not be tolerated.

Use discretion when posting a message. This forum is read by thousands of U2 fans every day from around the world. What you say will be seen and read by many. To borrow from Hollywood's content rating system, we expect this Forum to remain PG-rated.

Respect U2 and their associates. Discussions that venture too far into the band members' personal / family matters will be considered inappropriate and removed from the forum.

Nicknames and avatars that we consider to be rude, inflammatory, vulgar, or otherwise inappropriate will be deleted.

Unsolicited advertising is not permitted. The administrator and moderators are solely responsible for determining what constitutes an advertisement.

No trading, selling, or helping to distribute any songs, concerts, videos, etc. Yes, we know U2 says they don't mind fans trading live shows, but none of us have the time or desire to play cop to the bad traders out there.

Be descriptive and succinct in your messages, including your Subject titles. Don't post a message titled "I heard the new U2 album" as an attention-getter unless that's what your post is actually about.

Please post your messages to the appropriate Topic. We realize discussions often go in a variety of directions. When a discussion begins to change substantially from its original content, please continue by starting a new discussion (in a different Topic/Subject if necessary). We reserve the right to edit or move discussions that veer too far off-topic.

Please post your messages in English. While we are glad to have members from around the globe, the use of a common language helps ensure that the Forum runs smoothly.

Do not cross-post your message to multiple Topics. Find what you think is the most appropriate place to post, and post your message once. If we feel a message has been posted in the wrong place, we may move it.

Forum rules and moderation are not a topic for public discussion. If you have questions or concerns about the rules or how the forum is moderated, please email us and we will do our best to reply when appropriate.

@U2 retains the right to remove, edit, or move any message for any reason.

Your failure to follow the rules of the Forum may result in termination of your access to the Forum and/or other remedies.

These rules may be modified from time to time, with revisions to be announced on this page. Continued access of the Forum by you will constitute your acceptance of any changes or revisions to the these rules and policies.

Thanks again for being part of our forum community and following these rules!

Has a much more historical connotation than anything Chris Martin has done...

"The King is dead. Long live the King! (French: Le Roi est mort, vive le Roi!) [1] is a traditional proclamation made following the accession of a new monarch in various countries, such as the United Kingdom, Canada and others. The original phrase was translated from the French Le Roi est mort. Vive le Roi!, which was first declared upon the coronation of Charles VII following the death of his father Charles VI in 1422. In France, the declaration was traditionally made by the Duc d'Uzès, a senior Peer of France, as soon as the coffin containing the remains of the previous king descended into the vault of Saint Denis Basilica. The phrase arose from the law of le mort saisit le vif—that the transfer of sovereignty occurs instantaneously upon the moment of death of the previous monarch. "The King is dead" is the announcement of a monarch who has just died. "Long live the King!" refers to the heir who is immediately the successor to a throne upon the death of the preceeding monarch."

Wow, I've bent quite a few of those rules (although I don't think I've actually broken any - just pushed things a bit).

Also, @U2 is now clearly established as a monarchical system, which I suppose I'll have little choice but to accept...

I made a small adjustment to something that shouldn't be affecting your account but perhaps it was. Let us know if you have better access now.
