This may sound like a stretch, but i think it may be the case.

REcent albums have included bible references, chapter and verse.  Bono has admitted as much with the J33 on the ATYCLB cover, etc.

UNO/ONE:  first testament
DOS/TWO: second book
TRES/THREE: third chapter
CATORCE/14: 14th verse

which=Exodus 3:14, where God reveals his name, Yahweh, or I AM.

If you see the notes fpr the book included in the album, Bono's scribbles make mush of this name.  Of course the last song is named by this name..and "All because of you, I AM" as well.

That is a pretty cool thought. 8)

I am sure this has probably been asked many times before, but can anyone tell me the significance of these numbers in Spanish at the intro of Vertigo? 1,2,3,14.

I tell people who ask me this because the numbers equal 20 and it was their first "rock" song and album in 20 years.

Usually they buy it ;)

sure, it's been asked a lot, and hotly debated...is it album numbers, just a fun moment, honest mistake?

Could be all the above..But I guess this:
his may sound like a stretch, but i think it may be the case.

Recent albums have included bible references, chapter and verse.  Bono has admitted as much with the J33 on the ATYCLB cover, etc.

UNO/ONE:  first testament
DOS/TWO: second book
TRES/THREE: third chapter
CATORCE/14: 14th verse

which=Exodus 3:14, where God reveals his name, Yahweh, or I AM.

If you see the notes for the book included in the deluxe album, Bono's scribbles make much of this name.  Of course the last song, "Yahweh" is named by this name..and "All because of you, I AM" as well.

To all who thought I took the time to discover the 3:14 connection..No, not me! (:  Not that mush time on my hands (:   I read it somewhere else..googling will how you several posts.

OK...I wanted to highlight my previous post and insert it into this one..a really cool feature that many of you use here, as in quoting my original post above.. Drummer did in the post directly above..But how do you do it?  I don't see any instructions around on that..Thanks

My guess is that the original lyric was to count to four in Spanish and Bono, being Bono, adlibbed or forgot the lyric.

I've heard it was because 'Bomb' was their 14th album (their studio albums plus Under A Blood Red Sky and the 2 Best Ofs) and that Bono thought of it while drunk and it became a sort of inside joke. The latter makes sense to me.

I think it comes down to "catorce" sounds better than "quatro" and there is a "four" in there somewhere - that's it. U2 fans being U2 fans, they will always search for a deeper hidden meaning and Bono is happy to allow them to have that. lol.
