*sigh*  I don't want to go to the gym (my friend flaked out on me).  My son does not want to go to the gym. But then I thought about you all, and what I posted yesterday. And yes, I am about to get off my arse, put my gym clothes on and go down there. I know I'll feel better after.

I went to the Y myself today. My mom and I walked over- there was some exercise! Then I chose to "ride" the stationary bike for the remainder of my workout. It wasn't that bad. I put on Kick by INXS and got lost in rocking out while riding, so that my heart rate went up and I had fun. I love the Y. I can't wait to see what else there is to do there.

Me too, but my coach only lets us do outdoor running. If you want a good leg workout try an elliptical. I really liked them, it's similar to running but without such an intense cardio/breathing

Actually I want an arm workout... my legs are tired of all this cycling and stationary cycling I've been doing. (That reminds  me, does anyone have advice on stretching to loosen the muscles after? I'm afraid of getting sore after a workout.) Ellipticals look good in theory... but someone told me they're really hard to use... I guess I'll find out for myself when I go back tomorrow.

I guess it's just my inner runner showing through. And plus, I have no upper body strength so I tend to turn towards the leg workouts that I can actually survive. But good luck!

Chill, Are you talking about using the eliptical for stretching or just for a workout. It is not hard at all to get used to and it's really good for your knees.  Just look up some basic leg stretches online - make sure you stretch your CALVES so you don't get shin splints. and then a basic quad and ham stretch should be fine.

So I did 4 miles on the treadmill.  Take THAT, Coach.

Nice! When I do distance, I always feel like the treadmill makes it sooo much longer. I need scenery or something or distract me

Oh, just for stretching. It doesn't matter what I use specifically. That's good to hear.

Everyone in this thread is so helpful. Thank you!

Good job this week, everyone!

Had a big protest on Tuesday (my usual gym night) and had to pick up husband from the monstrous airport on Thursday (my other usual gym night) so we did the unthinkable and participated in...FRIDAY AFTERNOON AT THE GYM!  ;D  We actually saw some of the same people we usually catch on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday...so I'm thinking those folks must go every day.

Have been doing my 5k routine on the treadmill.  Today I realized that if I run 3.3 miles each today I go the gym, I can say that I run ~10 miles a week.  I liked that number, so I gave it a shot.  Making incremental increases to my runs is more practical for me right now than adding more runs to my weekly schedule.

zooey, resident BAMF, once again kicking arse and taking names.  Way to go everybody!  And special encouragement to EC.  Rock that summer gym class!  Glad you like the Y.  Maybe try zumba, I hear it's really fun.  Or kick-boxing, my daughter has a DVD she really likes.  Oh, yeah, maybe try some DVD's, even if they're a little cheesy.  My daughter did Hip Hop Abs for awhile!  Yoga probably won't get your heart rate up, if that's all the class is monitoring, but it will help you stretch and be more flexible and balanced.
