Wo-hoo! I'm back.  8)

Since everyone else has been busy exercising - I started running again (=seriously) a week ago. First 3.7k, then 5k. Last Saturday I did 6.5k on a very hilly route (killed my thighs in good way) in 46 minutes. My goal is to be fit enough to run 10k (easily) in two months - so I can participate in the Midnight Run 10k race and not die on the finish line.

Keep up the good work - drink enough in hot temperatures.

MAYMAY!!!! NIce to see you here again!  Good to have a goal and not dying on a 10K run is a totally noble goal.  I don't have any races or events scheduled yet, but a triathlon just opened registration for October... hmm...

And BSS, moving furniture TOTALLY counts as an extra workout. How was SD? How was kayaking?

My legs were jello today, so this afternoon I lifted upper body (gotta get my shoulders looking good so I can show off my new tattoo that I'll be getting at the end of the month   :P  )  and then I did 30 minutes of incine on the treadmill and then 10 x 30-second sprints.  I feel good.

Making shrimp quesadillas for dinner tonight, provided Mr.Z's tummy is back to normal.

oh, Dream, you're missing out!!!  I posted a bunch to Interference earlier. I NEED to see that movie.  Everyone's talking about Magic Mike, but really I just want to see the Matthew McConoughey scenes.

My tattoo is going to be sort of like this:

But instead of the infinity symbols it'll probably be dots or just little swooshy things. I want the "interger" symbol, but I think that will be too complicated.  It's going to go on my right shoulder (since I broke my left shoulder 3x it's all crooked)

The four words mean four different kinds of love in Greek:  Agape: selfless love, Storge: love for family, eros: physical love / passion, philia: friendship

That sounds like a pretty sweet tattoo, it has a nice meaning behind it  :)

Are we allowed to talk about v-muscules in this thread?  ;D Do I need to explain what v-muscles are?  ;) I will say only that our soon-to-be-single friend posted above is "rocking" some pretty good v-muscles for his age.

And Zooey, love the tattoo plan!  I've been reading Jeffrey Eugenides' novels in the last week, there's lots of Greek-American culture involved.  In my current book, one of the main characters (who is half Greek) just left Athens.  So I'm in that pseudo-Greek mood and loving your classical tattoo idea.

Update: my gym is open on the 4th (tomorrow).  So now there are no excuses.  Last night during my run, my stomach conspired against me.  I limped through a mix of running and walking instead of curling into a fetal position so it's still a victory.

My gym teacher is impressed with my progress. I had a meeting with her today. So far I've worked out for 26 hours in all over this summer. She told me I need to get to 30 hours by Friday, which is do-able, and that I need to get in the target heart zone more often, which I'll work on, but I'm very happy with my results for now.

Does anyone find that the music they listen to either slows down or speeds up their heart rate? I like to listen to fast-paced music because I'm more likely to get in the zone then. Also, has anyone ever read a book while working out? I get bored sometimes (there are only so many fast-paced albums on my iPod) and I tried reading but it's hard to concentrate when your mind and body are doing two different things, at different speeds...

That's a lot of working out EC!  :D I also feel the same way about music, I can't listen to slow songs while I run/workout at all. I've never really tried to read a book cause I usually run outside, and that would look kinda strange... But I can understand what you mean. When I get bored of my playlist if I'm on a treamill or something stationary, I like to watch concert DVDs on my ipod cause they're really energectic and exciting  :) Today it was so hot out I ran inside and watched an episode of Criminal Minds

I think music has a lot to do with your progress and how you respond to whatever exercise.

At my bootcamp class, it all depends on which instructor is teaching the class. One instructor loves to play dance music, which is fine but he plays the same music over and over again. The other instructor plays 80's hair rock bands and I notice that most of the people in the class respond better to it! Plus when this instructor has you incorporating air guitar and air drums into the exercises, it's a lot of fun!!

So it all depends on how into the music you are and how you can incorpate it effectively into your exercises.

^that's funny  :D

update: I did a total of 8 on tuesday, 4 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon. Yesterday was a no go for me, we were busy with birthday celebrations  :) and today I'm hoping to get in 6 if it stops storming....if not, the treadmill is always an option...

welcome back, maymay!! ;D 8)

i've been lurking the past week or so - life's been busy... but yay to all of you who are keeping it going!  and zooey - i love the tattoo!!  i've actually heard of those 4 greek words before - way cool!

EC - i remember reading a newspaper article a long time ago that said something like:  if you workout to music that has the same beats-per-minute (bpm) as your target heart rate, you'll have a more efficient/better workout.  what you were saying makes it sound like they may have been on to something :)

i confess, i only ran once last week (week 4 in my 5K training program).  but i sucked it up and went on to week 5 this week - on course for the usual 3 run/walks this week and not too winded from having skipped some last week (whew!).  i thought i'd be started on the 10K training by about now, but my memory is jumbled - apparently i'll start that training mid-august (race is sept 30).  i'm feeling good during the running, though, so yay :)

and dream - i run on the treadmill almost exclusively... society frowns on it when a mom leaves her two small kids unattended while she goes for a run in the neighborhood, so i'm kinda stuck for now :D

jab- yeah that's true. probably not the best idea to leave your kids while you run, but hey, props to you for working out anyways!  :D

So today I only got in 3. Let's just say I went for an unexpected rave run...it had just hailed and I decided to go for a run afterwards as there were no storms, a few large clouds but not much. Then I get 1.5 miles into my run and the lightning alarms go off. I decided to speed home and 'luckily' for me the only way back was through the baseball and soccer fields lined with telephone poles. Needless to say I ran my butt off the last 1.5 miles. I guess the good news from that run is my last mile was at an 8:05 pace  :P
