Manic Street Preachers - Motown Junk
Oh second that.

But can you imagine Bono signing 'I laughed when Lennon got shot'

Even James doesn't sing it any more...

It would be very fitting at the start of a show (after the typical I Will Follow or Out of Control is played), but yeah, Bono would definitely switch some of those lyrics around.

Maybe I'm amazed/McCartney
Mother /Lennon (they have snippeted)
Rocket Launcher/ Bruce Cockburn (rumored to be in the vaults )
I still believe / The Call
Cortez the Killer /Neil Young
T bone/Neil young
The Last Resort/Eagles
Earache my eye/Cheech and Chong ::)
Eighteen/Alice Cooper (hey Larry's on his new album)
Ramble Tamble/CCR (an overlooked classic )
Yes, for real. Just imagine Edge doing this opening, and Bono singing like this.  I dare you

I'd pay good money to hear U2 tackle All My Friends by LCD Soundsystem.

The way it builds from a slow start into a song that brings so much energy (and is well within Bono's range) would be perfect. Adam especially would love playing this.

Thought of a few more.  What's really fun is a song you have hard time imagining them doing:

-Heartbroken Bopper/The Guess Who
-Strawberry Fields
-Carol of the Bells
-Hey Ya
-Whiter Shade of Pale
-Watermelon in Easter Hay/Zappa
-Medley: Spirit in the Sky-- After Forever/Black Sabbath ('the first Christian rock song')

And this!:
-Blaze of Glory/The Alarm
they love this song, and already sang a snippet on this video tribute to Mike Peters.  So funny to watch, as it seems Larry was mad taking up studio time to film it:

I'd love to hear them cover Closer by Nine Inch Nails and The Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson! :)

The NIN shout (above) made me think that the lads could smash Hurt. Not sure Bono could beat the vocals of Mr Cash but I'd like to hear some atmosphere and moodiness added by the band.

I'd like to see them cover one of Chet Baker's slow vocal songs.  I can really see U2 being great as a depressing lounge act.

I don't see U2 as a great cover band. The best they have done have probably been their The Who covers in my opinion. I would keep it at that.

Yes, kind of.  But they have too much hope and optimism to do that full-time.  They may already be starting on the lounge act as there are numbers at shows now that seem to lose interest and slope off or chat amongst themselves about 2/3 the way through the show - casuals maybe.

I would really like to see U2 cover P.Y.T.  I think it would be interesting to hear Bono and Edge's take on it...like totally put a U2 spin on it.. and I think it would be epic.  They could only do it once and it would be a thing that people could say "I was there when U2 covered P.Y.T.".
