Both are needed to make great 'songs', 'I Still Haven't Found' & 'Bad' spring to mind from U2 - fantastic melodies, and awesome lyrics

I just had to resurrect this thread one last time because I visited the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame Annex in New York today. A certain artist was quoted as saying this:

"Lyrics are just as important to a song as the music. If there were no lyrics there would be no song."

Bob Dylan

Look I'm responding to my own quote ;D I wonder if that has ever been done before?  Could it be a forum first?!
Well, my point of the  post was they are both important. People were dismissing the lyrics right away. I'm thinking Fred Astaire dancing without Ginger Rogers. They are both fantastic but together - MAGIC ;)  And there is the answer to the question that started this thread.  SG

This seems like a perfect time to quote one of my favorite movies, Music & Lyrics:

"A melody is like seeing someone for the first time. The physical attraction. Sex. But then, as you get to know the person, that's the lyrics. Their story. Who they are underneath. It's the combination of the two that makes it magical. "

Very cool quote, and I've even seen the move (that's rare coming from me).

And yes, that is spot on.

Also, congratulations Angel of Harlem!
