Stay (Faraway So Close) "Dressed up like a" what?!
« on: December 27, 2008, 01:23:21 AM »
Honestly, when I first listened to "Stay" I heard the lyrics "dressed up like a car-crash" as "dressed up like a" **** rash. I'm referring to a male's privates if you don't get the idea ...  :-X Am I the only one who hears this!? Some variations include "like a" cockroach, but I mainly hear the one I stated before. I hope I didn't ruin "Stay" for you!  :P

Luckily for you!  :'( Actually, lol, I still enjoy the song, even though it's tainted with that lyric!  ;D

Hey, I mishear lyrics quite often too, like on Discotheque.

You know you're chewing bubble gum

I hear it as and sing it as:

You know you should bah bah bah

 :D

lol Interesting way to make Bono appear to be forcing us to "bah" like goats! :D But some unintentional lyric changes actually benefit the song, like in "Electrical Storm", I thought "heavy as a truck" was "heavy as a" drug, which to me sounded more inventive. Or in "Original Of The Species", I misheard the lyric the "the end is not as fun as the start" as "the end is not as" far "as the start". See what I mean?

yeah, just the way he sings it, sometimes unrecognisable and easily mistaken for something else.

Another line from Discotheque I always sing wrong.

Real line: You don't always show it - love.

My line: You don't know a shower.

Whats Discotheque have to do with showers? eh?  :)

I'm completely clueless on how you could have misinterpreted those :o but that line definitely makes it more entertaining! ;D

There's the classic "Jungle jane and a love supreme" in place of "John Coltrane and A Love Supreme".

Hey, that's my line, mattyk!  Thanks for elevating my bad ears to the level of "classic"!  I don't feel nearly so stupid now.  (Listen to it.  Don't you hear "Jungle Jane", too?)   :D

When I first started listening to the song, I always heard "jungle jane", but then I got into jazz, discovered "A Love Supreme" and the lyric suddenly made sense. I've heard it as "John Coltrane" ever since! I know of quite a few people who hear it as "jungle jane". So don't feel bad U2yooper! In any case, it can't be as bad as mishearing "dressed up like a car crash" as "dressed up like a **** rash". I feel for you achtungchild.

I love that line in Shadows and Tall Trees, which is, when misheard: "Is love like a taco, hanging from the ceiling?"
