What are the five worst U2 songs?
« on: August 02, 2009, 09:45:11 PM »
Try to avoid compiling your list in an obvious fashion. Everyone knows "Wild Honey" is a terrible song, expand your list options and make it interesting. Include the reasoning behind you making your choices.

1. A Man And A Woman - A song so horrific, I've only listened to it once; it's the exact opposite of what U2 represents in regard to music.
2. Get On Your Boots - This song is absolutely pretentious. It's obviously an appeal for new fans, specifically the younger audience, and as a result this song loses all credibility.
3. Numb - It acts as an interlude, but at over four minutes it's unbearable. I'm quite fond of The Edge, but in this regard, he's not welcome!
4. Desire - Consisting of only four repeated chords, this is perhaps the most simple of U2 songs. However, this song does little to grasp your attention, and is ultimately forgettable.
5. Last Night On Earth - I find the bridge between the verse and chorus incredibly irritating. Also, this song is supposed to be a "rocker", but it comes off as a bit lighthearted.

1) Elevation:  grade school lyrics
2) God Part II:  went too far with the dressed in leather bad boy image (well...they continued it on Achtung, but at least then it was supposed to be pretentious and somewhat of  a joke), and at this point in their career, Bono hadnt yet earned the right to brush shoulders with the image of Lennon
3) All Because of You:  Bono strains for those notes in the chorus and its embarrassing; Larry and Adam sound like they are filtered through a cell phone.
4) Unknown Caller: "Password (awkward pause) You (awkward pause) Enter Here (awkward pause) Right Now."  Just think, they had the chance to include Winter and leave this one off of No Line.  Sad.
5) Fire:  this one never really flowed very well

Honorable mention:  Their cover of Helter Skelter: This has to be one of the worst covers of all time.  They rescued themselves by doing an outstanding cover of Satellite of Love a few years later.  Their version of Dancing Barefoot was excellent, too.

Everyone knows "Wild Honey" is a terrible song

Speak for yourself. I love that song.

Anyways, as much as I hate making a worst of list...I will.

1. Elvis Presely And America - No matter how hard I try, I can't find anything good in this "song". I gave up.
2. Scarlet - Bores me to tears.
3. Grace - I can enjoy this song on certain days, but most of the time I stop ATYCLB after New York

I can't think of two more.

I agree with Boom Cha!

(in no order)
1. Shadows and Tall Trees - I can never tell what the heck Bono is saying.
2. Is That All? - they recycled the riff to The Cry and it doesn't feel like a closer. October would have worked better as the closer, possibly.
3. Happiness is a Warm Gun - it's just odd.
4. A Man and a Woman - only because it doesn't seem to fit in the flow of the album.
5. Babyface - it's never really done anything for me, but it does have its high points.

**THIS IS NOT MEANT TO MEAN THAT I DON'T LIKE THESE SONGS**

Hmm....

1. Miami - It's been said ad nauseum. Dull, dull song with lazy vocals which only gets worse when it 'climaxes'
2. Numb- Edge talks in bored monotone while Bono sings poor falsetto and a repetitive chord plays. Repeat for five minutes.
3. Man and a Woman - ...Yeeeah
4. Wild Honey- I hate the lyrics of this song so very much.
5. Elvis Presley and America- Never has it been so obvious that a song was improvised!

Why oh why did I know the following songs would be mentioned in this thread-

Grace
Wild Honey
A Man and a Woman
Elvis Presley and America

LOL  ;D ;D ;D ;D   Like I said in another thread, I know the results before anyone posts.

For the record (once again) I will defend Wild Honey AND Grace until the day I die!  :P ;) :D

All the re-issues/remixes of the Pop singles. Was it 5? I cant remember  :-\

The original ones were perfect as they were and should have been left alone!

I can only think of two U2 songs that I skip on my playlists and don't care for that much. 4th of July and Window in the Skies. And that's not to say they are bad pieces of work, just in my opinion not as good everything else.
