For me, their five worst would come from their first 2 albums, but I generally give them a pass for inexperience.

A post-October worst five would include:

Yahweh
A Man and a Woman
Crumbs
Red Light
Two Hearts Beat as One

I'll call this my LLL (Least Loved List):

1. Unknown Caller. This is the only song I would comfortably attach the descriptor of "worst" to.  More than that, it's lyrically an embarrassment and it hurts me to listen to it.  Can't imagine how that slipped through QC. Ugh.
2. Breathe.  "Cockatoo"? Come on. Music isn't bad, but the lyrics are tired U2 rehashes not dressed up very well and poor rap-style verses.
3. Magnificent.  Again, music isn't bad.  Again, lyrics are so unoriginal for the band, and the majority of it has been done infinitely better one earlier albums, as recently as HTDAAB.  I'll limit NLOTH to these 3 so I can spread the love some more.
4. Miami.  As others have already mentioned, this song didn't succeed at all for me, musically or lyrically.  It's uninspiring and doesn't invite the listener into it.  It's weird not to be emotionally involved in a U2 song!
5. This is probably going to be sacrilegious, but here we go: Mofo.  I know, I know.  It's "Bono's most personal song" and all that.  It was a show stopper during PopMart, I guess.  But still, try as I might, I've only been able to gain a grudging respect and appreciation for it.  If I hadn't worked so hard, I probably wouldn't be able to listen to it without effort.  It's just not a U2 song to me, musically mostly.

Like some people said before, it's not easy to pick out U2 songs for the bottom of a list.  If it wasn't for NLOTH and the two Pop tracks above, I don't think I could have supplied such a list at all.

There's only 3 songs I can think of that I skip every time they come on:

Celebration
Party Girl - I know a lot of people like this one, but I just could never get into it.
Get on Your Boots [Crookers Remix] - I know this is a remix and probably shouldn't count, but they did put it on the album (at least the one I bought) and I skip it every time.

1. Miami (this is the one U2 song that makes me I cringe when I hear it)
2. A Man and a Woman
3. The Playboy Mansion
4. If You Wear That Velvet Dress
5. Tie between "Grace" and "Cedars of Lebanon"

Interesting that you consider Velvet Dress and Cedars among them, I think they're both spectacular songs, especially Cedars.

I think both IYWTVD and COL are very powerful lyrically (especially Cedars),  but I am not a fan of the overall performances.  Good ideas on paper, but poor execution (imo).

God I need this

1 - Peace On Earth: Not bloomin' likely
2 - Stand Up Comedy: It's like listening to a group of hobbits covering Metallica in the local Shire pub. Laughable
3 - Elevation: Largely responsible for the huge deduction in the average IQ of U2 fans
4 - Vertigo: ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
5 - The rest of Bomb

First of all I just need to say how shocked I am at the amount of NLOTH songs on this thread  :o

My list is in no particular order...

1. Trip Through Your Wires - Honestly one of their most boring songs ever.
2. Miami - "My Mammy"? Are you serious?
3. New York - I just don't get this song at all.
4. Fast Cars - Sounds like a cheap Mexican version of U2.
5. Shadows And Tall Trees - Just never understood this song, makes me depressed when I hear it.

Everyone knows "Wild Honey" is a terrible song,

Speak for yourself!  ;D

Counting down:

5. "Please" (album version) -- I really hate to say this because I think it's one of U2's best songs, particularly live with the full band. The album version is just so unfinished-sounding, and musically grating at times to this listener, that it ruins my appreciation for the lyrics when I hear it. The single version is superior.

4. "Is That All?" -- I like the thought, but it's just too short to be effective, save as a punctuation mark to the entire album.

3. "A Man and a Woman" -- Some great sentiments and good lyrics, but it just doesn't work, primarily due to the music. It sounds to me like an extremely laid-back, but nonetheless imitation boy-band, song.

2. "Big Girls Are Best" -- OK, I can appreciate an ode to a very pregnant Ali (if that's indeed what it is, as some hold), but the song just grates horribly. This is one song that really did deserve to be a B-side, IMHO.

1. "Babyface" -- On an album full of ironic social criticism, it's perhaps an understandable topic, but the song is truly hideous.

4. The Wanderer
These are songs I always skip.

:P  The Wanderer is one of my all time faves.

My 5 worst would have to be
1) Miami (for the reasons people have already stated)
2) New York (I sense a trend that doesn't bode well for the Malibu song)
3) One Step Closer (is there really a more boring U2 song?)
4) Last Night on Earth (The only other Pop song I find unlistenable)
5) Babyface (am I the only one that thinks this song is creepy?)

Does anyone else keep going "  :o  ???  :P  :-X  :o " every time they see some of their favorite songs pop up in a bottom 5 list?  I have to constantly remind myself, "Everyone's tastes are different.  It's okay.  It doesn't mean anything...."  ;D

Certainly a lot of great songs in this thread, In some cases I think worst and overrated are getting a little mixed up.
