I'm content with who I am.

Overall, I think WGRYWH has the best lyrics. I've been trying to replicate that style of lyricism in my own material for years. "You're dangerous, because you're honest. You're dangerous, you don't know what you want". On some of the songs people voted for, I have to disagree with, Bad especially. That song is supposedly about heroin, however, not once during the song does it convey anything that would lead you to believe that it's about a drug addiction. Also, some of the lyrics are a bit tedious, and are basically repeated,"wide awake, I'm not sleeping". Is Bono trying to perpetuate the emotion which we're already aware of; we know you're "wide awake"! I also feel indifferent towards Kite's lyrics, especially the last verse. However, the minimalist style Bono adopts for that song I consider appropriate, it's a plea from a child to his father. To conclude, what I believe to be a lack of penmanship on Bono's part, doesn't impede on my ability to enjoy a song.

Who's Gonna . . . is a beautiful song, Polyester Shirt.  If I were to vote again I might switch one of my votes for this song, one of the best heartbreaking love songs that I know.  I still stand by Bad, though.   Smiley

Well, one song I would have voted for was not on this list: Gone.

But, when choosing my four songs I realized that a huge part of U2's draw for me is the optimism and hope present in so many of their songs.  Optimism without being naive, hope without ignoring the bad stuff.  So I chose:

Streets - we keep going, keep working towards something better because "it's all we can do" - the alternative is to just give up
Beautiful Day - optimistic, joyful, puts things in perspective for me when I'm having a rough day
Kite - powerful song about loss, letting go, and the affirmation that "you don't need anyone" - you are strong enough to keep going
Please - powerful song about religious extremism . . . "get up off your knees" and let's work together already

Where the Streets Have No Name: such a powerful vision of a better world!  This song never fails to inspire me.

Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out Of: I've struggled with depression (sometimes severe, suicidal depression) more than once, so I can really relate to this!  It's a perfect depiction of what depression is like, and offers the promise that "this time will pass."

Beautiful Day: A lovely reminder to slow down and appreciate what we have here and now, especially the little things; and a reminder that if we are grounded in love, gratitude, and wonder, we will survive whatever comes our way.

Moment of Surrender: A deeply personal song for me.  I've wrestled the demon of fear a lot in recent years, mostly as I've struggled to overcome the effects of religious abuse in my teenage years.  A vivid depiction of what it's like to live in fear (particularly spiritual fear or fear connected with intimate relationships/sex).  Also captures the mixed feelings that living in fear can produce: longing to be free of it, but also, ironically, being apprehensive of what lies beyond your fear.

I think Your Blue Room should be on here. Although I haven't been able to pick yet, that would probably be on my top four.

1)Bad, I heard this song for the first time when everything was not okay and it has helped me through bad times ever since. It's a beautdiul, gripping song, that seems so desperate, yet it gives me hope. 2) Stay, without a doubt one of the most beautifully haunting songs I have ever heard. 3)Running To Stand Still, obviously, it's one of their masterpieces, even the title is amazing in itself.
The fourth one took me some time...I was thinking over and over how much I liked this song or that, and how great those lyrics were, and couldn't really decide, but in the end I settled with 4)Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of, because it's one of those songs that give you hope when you're down, that might seem a bit 'simple' compared to other U2 masterpieces, but that are in fact stunning in their simplicity. It's a song that has helped me through some though days and I think it can be counted among their best songs.

1) Stay - Just...I can't even think of the words to do it justice. It's the kind of song that speaks for itself.
2) Running to Stand Still - When I saw the towers in Ballymun a few months ago, I could SEE the melancholy inspiration and it was just really, really poignant.
3) Until the End of the Word - Beautifully written and such a clever choice of topic.
4) Debated between "40" and "A Sort of Homecoming" before settling on the latter. It's just SUCH a grandiose song.

So Cruel - The greatest song Bono ever wrote. Its the one time he can look Dylan in the eye and not flinch. Still completely and utterly blows my mind. Also Adams best bass part since New Years Day.

Acrobat - dont know what to say.. go listen to the mathematics of his rhymes - He can be a damn genius at times.

Bad - It just is

Grace - only joking Wink

Drowning Man - to quote Lloyd Bridges in Hot Shots 'it scares the living p!ss outta me'

Bad : The most powerful and meaningful lyrics Bono wrote.

Streets : Can you say uplifting ?  I think it is the definition of uplifting.

UTEOTW : The interaction between Jesus and Judas is pure genius.

Kite : Beautiful song, I want it played at my funeral
