I think we've got a good chance of having Mercy on the album; the edge spoke about playing it on the new tour in boston prior to release of the album. It has all the hallmarks of a classic U2 song, driving drums bass lyrics and guitar; a stream of consciousness it may be but it's undeniably something special.

I wouldn't count on a) the album being done by this Christmas or b) Mercy being on it. Given all the criticism of U2 trying to straddle two different directions with NLOTH, they will not take a chance at having something from "old U2" on this album.

It would be a shame, though, if they miss the Christmas season. They need the next one to be a hit and another first quarter introduction in such a weak economy is not going to be helpful.

Great news on the new album; can't wait!

But "staying in Vancouver" means coming back to Vancouver after the Rock Hall celebration in NYC on Oct. 30. Also, if they are going to stay in Vancouver, that may mean that Spider-Man is indeed going to be delayed.

The SpiderMan musical might be toast. there was an article at www.io9.com about it a couple of days ago.

There is apparently quite a bit of tension between Bono/The Edge and Julie Taymor and company over the musical. Julie is well known in theater circles for going over budget on everything she touches, from Broadway to opera to films. That was fine back when you could get financing from hedge fund managers and real estate folks who wanted to invest. But now, money is not there, and that is a reason why the musical seems to be on hold. I'm sure there's a temptation to ask Bono/The Edge to simply fork it over. That, however, is not a smart business strategy, especially given what happened to the Irish economy.

I bought a ticket to the opening and I've heard nothing from Ticketmaster. I'm sure they will wait as long as possible to make refunds because they need the advance sales money to keep the project alive.

*makes travel arrangements for Canada*

Well, if Edge wants to take me for lunch, I'd need 26 hours notice to drive there.

In my never ending campaign to bring "Mercy" public (a sort of IPO of songs), this album better have "Mercy" - U2's best song of this decade - or I'm done as a fan... Wink

Another album without that masterpiece will finally break my heart...

That's one less album sale then...c'mon, the band hasn't mentioned the song for over four years now. What are you expecting, exactly?

TraKianLite - actually, a member @U2 asked the Edge during one of the promotional stops - I think it was limited Boston gig of NLOTH - if U2 would ever reconsider "Mercy". According to that @U2 member, who prefaced his/her remarks that "Mercy" was their favorite U2 song, Edge said he had actually tried to figure out a way to play the song live in concert only recently. To me, that seems to indicate on some level that the band has not completely jettisoned the song from album consideration...

If there is a 2nd album to come this year, there obviously needs to be at least ten songs. I'm not sure if there are ten lying around from the NLOTH sessions. Thus, why can't "Mercy" travel the same route of "Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own", and finally make the cut for an album...? SYCMIOYO was a song the band had been playing around with for nearly three years...

I think there's very little chance of seeing Mercy on this album. Bono described the album as being slower and "more meditative" in tone than NLOTH, so I'd be surprised to see it. I think the only way we'll see that song will be as an extra in the best of 2000-2010 album.

I wouldn't exactly call it a raucous song. Could work.

Well they did say that they have 9 songs that they think are good enough for the album, so hopefully it comes out before christmas Grin

well if U2 still care about the business they should get SOA out in November 2009! The Fall is when you really sell albums. U2 have always done well in the Fall. But, ehh..I don't care as long as we get a new album. I'm just saying, if U2 care about sales then that's what they should aim for.

NEW U2 HOOOORAAAAAYYYY!!!!  Grin  Cool  Can't wait. (drool emoticon.)
