So i read this news the other day and my damn head nearly exploded! U2 recording in my city? I thought I have to hang out downtown for a very long time when they come. Then it pooped into my head. I know the sound engineer at The Factory Studio's.

They do infact have the studio book for an indefinite amount of time from roughly the 25th of October to mid November. I also talked and he said, he could probably get me in there to see them work their magic and quite possibly meet them. Needless to say, Im stupidly excited for October and no longer for 360, but to see the recording and mastering of Songs of Ascent!

TraKianLite - actually, a member @U2 asked the Edge during one of the promotional stops - I think it was limited Boston gig of NLOTH - if U2 would ever reconsider "Mercy". According to that @U2 member, who prefaced his/her remarks that "Mercy" was their favorite U2 song, Edge said he had actually tried to figure out a way to play the song live in concert only recently. To me, that seems to indicate on some level that the band has not completely jettisoned the song from album consideration...

If there is a 2nd album to come this year, there obviously needs to be at least ten songs. I'm not sure if there are ten lying around from the NLOTH sessions. Thus, why can't "Mercy" travel the same route of "Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own", and finally make the cut for an album...? SYCMIOYO was a song the band had been playing around with for nearly three years...

Lol but they've said they created about 50+ songs/ideas in NLOTH, I guess as you said only 9 of them are ready? We'll haveto see wont we . Haha it'd be so awesome if they just released everything . As for mercy, I don't think they'd release it, its an old song and they have new stuff to release. Besides, all songs are cooler when they're not well known, it somehow simply makes them better.

Lol mastering? Research the Loudness War, be shocked, and tell them to turn it down dammit! I wants not compromises , it would let me enjoy the music so much more .


Also, looking forward to the new album I don't mind when it comes out, suspense is nice.

More like, be extra nice to them and get a copy of the cd we wont put it up for download, we'll just share it between us here on the forum.

well it's up to you then that the next U2 album is their best ever. no pressure or anything. 

I really hope Mercy doesn't make it onto the new album - not because i don't think its good enough (it's a lovely song), but because it seems like a waste to replace a song no ones heard before with something thats been out there for years already
... plus i am biased in favour of their weird experimental stuff

well, i hope it is 1st and foremost experimental but with memorable songwriting and melody/harmony. I would only want Mercy on the album if it made sense to the album and if there was a good place for it sequentially with the other songs....and if they developed it a little more and surprised us for the better. It deserves a home on an album but if that's not possible then they should do what radiohead just did an officially let fans download it off their site complete with artwork, etc. it's a great song.
