Some of the greatest chill music ever! I think they should make an album like that again that is mostly instrumental heaven like Passengers  8)

True that! Man I just dont understand why Larry doesn't care for expirmentation :-\  Some of their best work came as a result of expirmenting with their sound in the 90's.

I actually listened to it up to Ito Oshaki last night. Its really really great. I loved it then and I loved it now. That album, with Zooropa before and Pop after, for me put U2 in the league of the Beatles as sonic innovators and a band not afraid to lose fans in the pursuit of their own artistic needs.

But then commericial concerns overtook them and they went back to normal. In Beatles terms, if ATYCLB was their Abbey Road (ie a return to normal) they should've really split up then.

Otherwise I would love an Original Soundtracks Vol 2. Perhaps now they will do this. If even Larry is saying they've got to start experimenting again, they could do something like it but with lots of percussion and drumming to keep Larry happy! I think Larry didn't like it because he didn't want U2 to stay on that path permanently, which they didn't do in the end. So now he might be more open to the idea of a totally experimental album as they did prove they could "get it back" in the popularity and sounding-like-U2 stakes.

Perhaps the root of the problem may lie in the fact that the band used a drum machine instead of Larry on that particular album.

So....
Public Transport...no
Cars.....no
Trains.....no
Jeremy Clarkson....no

Mentioning Edge is a Martian and that he arrived here on a spaceship.....no

I actually feel that U2 were in fact "passengers" on this album and Brian Eno was the driver. The collaboration worked well in parts and flopped in others. But it had far more of an Eno vibe than U2, which I think is part of the why the band called it Passengers instead of U2.

I haven't listened to it in a while either.  Their are some great tunes on that album, Slug, Blue Room, of course Miss Sarajevo.  I remember when this came out,  I had no idea that such a thing existed until one day when I was flipping through the channels in my college dorm room.  I stopped on VH1 because there was a pretty cool looking outdoor concert that was just starting.  My jaw dropped when I saw the boys walk out on stage with Pavarotti!  They looked so clean cut and dressed so nice.  I remember thinking "what the frig is this?!?"  Anyway, did some research, bought the album, and loved it!  I agree, Passengers Vol. 2 would be wicked cool, and maybe with this "surplus" of songs from this most recent album we could see something come about.  What.....if.......

When you have a band where the singer doesn't really play an instrument, making an instrumental doesn't make sense, it basically excludes him, since his contribution would be nil to none.
