I think he do want to fall in love completely       Not wanting to see means he wants to be blind in the service of love      in my opinion.

I think he means that if you love somebody so much, you can become blind to their true character.  He loves someone, but cant accept the fact that they have a flawed character, which is the dont want to see part.

i had the idea that this song was about the ira and there 'love' for the service they are carrying out. by saying love is blindess he means they 'love' doing there job, but it is making them blind to the fact that what they are doing is wrong. they see it as right.

It's another one of those dual-meaning songs.

It's another one of those dual-meaning songs.

...with the best live guitar solo ever.

I play this for the "all Edge can do is Delay" people.  They STFU after that.

He's resigning himself:

'Love is Blindess' - true
'I don't wanna see' - he is resigning himself to this mysterious force. He doesn't understand it and doesn't want to.

Surely one of the top 5 great U2 songs - may even be in my top 5 of any band...

I agree with this, but think it goes further still to being blind to everything, life in general, because the person is so consumed by love for, possibly even obsessed about, the other.

"Love is blindness, I don't want to see . . . "

If you're in love with someone, and the relationship is less than healthy, it's easy to choose to stay blind to preserve the relationship . . . to ignore the problems and hope they'll go away, or think that if you just try hard enough it will work out.  You can see the relationship self-destructing, but not be able to admit it.

Love is drowning
In a deep well
All the secrets
And no one to tell

This neatly sums up the 'love is blindness, I don't want to see' line. It's about being consumed by something and having neither the will nor the ability to get out of it.
