yea i'm about 10 songs into it. i love the first half but the critics are right, the "middle" few songs aren't that great. and way to long. can't wait to finish the album

The second disc will definitely be the contentious point of the album for many. It's slower and more experimental. The first half of the record is really solid.

Just finished the first half of the CD. Some songs don't feel as long as they are while others do. Overall, it's very solid--Atlas, Rise is probably my favorite. Hardwired is my least favorite.

Haven't heard the second half of the CD yet.

Still an improvement over the last couple CDs.

It's got Sonic Highwayitis. Great songs that are too long, imo.

A lot of their songs tend to be that way. Sometimes that length is justified but often I find that many of their songs could be trimmed by about 2-3 minutes and would lose nothing in the process.

Overall I'm really enjoying the album. It has its hits and misses but overall I hear every era of Metallica here. There's something for every breed of fan.

Yup. I have no issues with long songs when they are done right. These just seem too long without delivering anything to justify the length.

I think that these songs are mostly justified in their length. Can't say the same for the songs on ...And Justice or St. Anger though.

this is how i rank what i've heard

Ride the Lightning
Black
Justice
Master
Hardwired
Death Magnetic
Load
Kill 'em All

i'm interested in S&M but i don't really have interest in Reload or St. Anger. I was real let down when i heard Load last month so i won't bother with Re.

ReLoad is worth a listen imo as it has some good songs. St. Anger is a joke.

I'd rank them something like this:

Master of Puppets
Ride the Lightning
...And Justice For All

The Black Album
Kill 'Em All

Hardwired
Death Magnetic

ReLoad
Load

St. Anger

Lulu (I honestly haven't even listened to it, I just can't)

I love pretty much every song on the new album. The 2nd half is not worse than the first for me - its just more experimental and different. A song like "Am I Savage?" is just insane, and those vocals are out of this world. Finally a real return to form for Metallica.

U2 should take notes... although I have pretty much given up on them at this point.

Confusion and Here Comes Revenge are the only two songs that I'm not really big on. The album is awesome overall.

My current rankings:

Ride the Lightning
...And Justice for All
Master of Puppets
The Black Album
Load
Hardwired...To Self-Destruct
Kill 'Em All
Death Magnetic
Reload
St. Anger

Time will tell where Hardwired officially falls but so far I'm still loving it.
