I'm and idiot who was so anxious to join the forum that I didn't properly "think out" my username...How can I change it?

Sure. Click on PROFILE in the top row of links, then click ACCOUNT RELATED SETTINGS on the left. You can't change your login name, but you can edit the name that we see over to the left of your posts.
