My Disappointment With 360 - My First and Now Only Time Seeing U2

Last night was my first U2 show live, I've been a fan since elevation but never got a chance to see them live. I was not excited to see this show until Sunday, The Rose Bowl show was amazing and got me excited.
I made my way at last, got to the seats and awed at the Claw. That was the extend to the positive energy I felt for the stage. Black Eyed Peas, wee terrible, Fergie was lip singing. They were just loud and obnoxious, I expect a good band to open Muse, Snow Patrol, Kaiser Cheifs, Kanye West, Pearl Jam. Just to name a few, and Im sure they have had a lot of bad openers too.
Fast forward an hour and Breathe starts, way better live then I expected. Then a shotty version of Boots proving once more Bono can not sing at all. Then "What time is it in the world?" and from that point on, I was disappointed with the show. Why? I had watched it before, like 100 million people on Sunday. From Magnificent on I knew I wasnt going to get any surprises, I knew it was going to be the exact same show.
The Claw did not add to the show, it distracted from the show. It became so repetitive that it became a circus as someone else here has put it. Thats not what ruined it for me though, its that this show has been played 6 times in a row now. U2 is above a routine of a standard set list. They have gotten to comfortable with this set. They were worn out and didnt want to provide anything for all the die hard fans in the Pacific Northwest. I know a majority haven't seen the show before, but still change a couple of songs.
Unknown Caller, shouldn't be in the set, play Electrical Storm instead. It was not funny how many people left to get beer or the bathroom on that and No Line. By Chris Martin logic, those songs are gone. In a show you can not see the crowd, but you can see the lights in the openings to leave, and when those go black you know that song sucks.
U2 have become about the stage and a routine, to all you people expecting a ew set list for the next leg, keep dreaming. U2 has lost their principles and are now set into the routine of the tour. Last night they were tired. Larry look angrier then usual, Adam wasn't to involved. Bono's voice was bad. Edge was on fire, and Bono was right when he said "we would be nowhere with Edge" he is the band, he is the only one with energy or that cares it seems. I expect the same set night in and out by Coldplay, Kings of Leon bands with not a huge back cataloge of 14 albums. I will not waste my money on this absurd show again, and I was prepared to fly to Toronto or Edmonton next year.
I will instead fly to Latin America and spend my money to see Coldplay. They at least give it there all night in and out. Who also finished their North America leg of their our in Vancouver, and put on way better shows. Even though they were carbon copies, they provided more energy, more originality and got a better crowd reception. Even Kings of Leon were better, I hated that show!
I am disappointed with 360 and U2, I am done wasting money on what has become the new Rolling Stones. My advice to those buying tickets now, pass on them. Go see Pearl Jam or other bands who dont care just about the show. I am insulted by U2 for not playing to their fans. They sang Happy Birthday to Bill Gates while Edge had a acoustic, screw Stuck, we all wanted PARTY GIRL!
360 is one of the worst concerts I have ever seen. Waste of Time, Effort and Money.

To say that you would have expected a different set list....that barely happened unless they were playing 2 nights in the same city. They have NEVER been too varying with their set lists..EVER. If you look back thru the different tours, you'll see the same basic show, night after night. As for what songs they should/shouldn't play...... nobody would be completely satisfied, there are too many songs for everybody to hear exactly what they wanted to hear. Bono's voice? well at the end of the second leg, of a tour that started in late June (with rehearsals before that), I would expect his voice to be somewhat off...this has been the case with him for quite a while. Sorry you were disappointed, but I'm guessing you are the exception and not the rule.

So you are telling me that Chris Martin's voice after 3 legs of touring should be bad? it was near perfect.
For me, I would have been happy if they decided to play Party Girl instead of Stuck. I mean really, you just sang happy birthday. Is it so hard to play Bad after Streets? I was happy to leave after that too. The last three songs I saw from Rse Bowl were bollocks

I love the new songs BUT some of the old has got to do as they have lost its flare. For you to say the new tour is crap is wrong. The tour has made MY SON (7 years old) and Edgefest can attest to this a believer for life.
Even my 4 year old wants to come to the show in Edmonton. So please stop liking U2 and go back to your Coldplay (U2 bsides) stuff. AMEN.

U2 has never been known to change up their set list. People (fans) complain every tour about this...after 20 years of touring any fan should know what to expect. I urge you to wait until they play arenas again. Much more intimate and you will feel the music much more. Give it another shot when arena shows reappear. trust me..you will feel different about a U2 show..

I saw both Coldplay and U2.
Coldplay was a big, big disappointment, Chris Martin ruined the show with many, many mistakes and bad vocals, the guitar player screwed the last riff to fix you. The setlist was bad. But i still love the music.
U2 on the other hand, in Toronto, was near perfect. Even Bono's voice was strong.
Also please don't say Chris Martin has any song that is tough to sing. When he goes for high notes he justs automatically goes in Falsetto mode, Bono actually hits notes with his real chest voice.

Did anyone happen to catch Bono singing "Streets" at Pasadena? Go check it out and then tell me how his voice was.

What I am telling you is Chris Martin is 32 years old.....Bono 49......voices DO change as you get older. As far as they should have played this instead of that...blah blah blah......you get what you pay for...THEIR SHOW on THEIR terms.......don't go or pony up millions and they'll play YOUR favorites.....

I remember the shows I was at in Ottawa and Montreal for the Veritgo tour and when he sang "Miss Sarejevo" I was like WHAT THE f*** WAS THAT. I think he holds himself back but he is a true tenor.
Amazing voice.

I think I will forever be a fan of the Vertigo tour. I do not like the big time show they put on.
@northernscum - I believe the mindset of a child on this tour is a lot different and that a 7 year old would eat this show up. Im glad he's a believer for life though. I didnt really follow the tour because I had no intrest in what was going on. For most of the shows I was more interested in what their openers were doing.
@ptrocku2 - After this I dont think I will. Bono's voice will not be getting any better after this. I have already seen what I want to see from U2: The Edge make do his thing on Streets. I will live with never seeing Bad live, its not worth all the other recycled formulated crap, not the same stuff as on the DVDs I can watch
@Achtung_Habs - Life In Technicolour ii. Yellow, Politik, 42. Martin sings in a different style then Bono, he uses his falsetto, not his chest because they sing different styles. Jonny is no Edge, and I will forever love The Edge.
@Joe G - His voice was not strong, it was shotty that whole night. Just like last night.
And I am a true fan, I dont think its in your judgment to say if I am or not. I am criticizing a circus because U2 are better then this "show" they put on.

I am insulted by U2 for not playing to their fans.
ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha...seriously though, thanks for complaining about this, 'cause there's way too many threads these days complaining that the band's doing the opposite. You made my day. Perhaps not in a way that was intended, but made nonetheless.

Seriously, anyone who thinks Chris Martin is a better singer than Bono is WAY wrong imo. I'm an awful singer; but I've still got twice the power in my voice than CM.

exhausted here from the concert & hookups but will post more later...
@Malcolm-edge - Sorry you hated the show, energy, setlists etc. I agree with worldchamp04 & ptrocku2 on the setlists and expectations about it changing. You do need to adjust your setlist expections. Note: BCP venue REALLY sucks for this tour acoustics, setup & staging. If willing go to a great venue/ city and go GA @ $50. You won't be disappointed at all if you're a longtime fan & will rock out with others.
Anyway will report more later - have some real world stuff to conquer & am exhausted ( in a good way! LOL)

I was at the show too. I thought the claw was great, and U2 played very very well. They seemed happy and energetic, lots of smiling, even Larry
However, BC Place sounded terrible. The sound was very harsh, from my position just outside the circle. At least there were no slapback echo issues, but it was just abrasive sounding. I felt bad for the guys, because it's not their fault. I'm going to see them in Seattle next year, Qwest Field should be a much more satisfactory experience.
The setlist was the same, sorry you didn't like it Malcolm. I was perfectly happy with it, it's a solid set.
Why aren't people happy to just see U2 doing their thing? I don't care what they play, they can play a whole show of B-sides for all I care. It was jolly good fun.
