One of their best songs ever. Absolutely beautiful and absolutely tragic.

One of their best. Absolutely beautiful and sad. It's even better live, because as opposed to the recorded version it's a  quite uplifiting song live, I think. I mean, the song is about being alone, loneliness ("every eye looking every other way", "you did not notice the passers by and they did not notice you") but live it's not. Because the crowd sings along and lifts each other up. It is a sad song, but the crowd turns it into a song that gives strength.

i couldn't agree more.  if anyone was at the rosebowl up in section 21-ish, you may have seen me on my knees during the song.  it made me think of a terrible time in my life, and i couldn't help myself.  unfortunately, the rosebowl crowd was not so uplifting  Angry Cry

One of their best songs ever written. I always start my day off with this. To me, this song (along with Unknown Caller) is an exciting new direction for the band!! LOVE IT!!!

This a classic u2 song. Something powerful yet unique. Mostly because of how Bono attacked it.

One of his best vocals ever. Only objection would be the ohhs at the end which are vaguely similar to Stay and feel a little to forced and lose themselves in the key change as do the audience in the live performance, someone in the production team needs to question U2 on copying themselves.

I joke with my friends that NLOTH (which we all love) certainly does have its share of Oh-oh-ohs! LOL

At the Chicago show my friends and I were joking about all of the Oh-oh songs that were played: Moment of Surrender, NLOTH, Pride, Vertigo, Unknown Caller, etc. (I know there's many others that I just can't think of right now). Then there's Elevation, Bad, and City of Blinding Lights with the "Woos". My favorite band of all time and nothing but love comin' from me...but it's hard not to giggle about it a little bit! Smiley

I think bono must have a bet with someone on how many times he can throw Beautiful into a song

Public Enemy sampled themselves constantly on "It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back" and it's one of the most incredible albums ever. If it works, I see no reason not to use it. When Edge came up for the riff for "Beautiful Day", it was similar enough to previous U2 riffs to warrant his concern.

affirmative..Beautiful Day and ATYCLB was a good call to bring back the edges signature sound..but three albums later I feel NLOTH is sounding very familiar.
But I think thats why I love Moment of surrender so much.  Its unique and different from anything I've heard u2 do in the past a

So tonight I had to go to a funeral/wake service for the mother of a couple of girls I went to grade school and high school with. One of them was a dear friend all through grade school. I still see her every few years in passing and it's always good to see her. The other sister was a few years older than me but I always knew of her through my friend. This sister I ended up doing some work for professionally after college and now actually stay in touch with her via Facebook all the time (weird how FB can bring casual acquaintances closer together). When I was in the 6th grade, the girls brother, only a few years older than me and good friends with my uncle, died in a motorcycle accident. It was the first funeral I ever went to. Tonight, going to this wake...well, things just felt like they've come full circle. Even though I'm not super close with these friends, it was a something I felt obligated to attended without question. It's just one of those things you do as an adult. The family was very happy (and surprised) that I showed up. I'm glad I went.

I got in the car to head home and put in my current favorite, "Moment of Surrender." Within a few seconds, I completely lost it...just broke down crying. The song took on an entirely new meaning to me. Suddenly it's about growing up, being the adult, being the caregivers for our parents and grandparents, and struggling with death and mortality.  Here I sit, a couple hours after the wake, and I just keep listening to MOS on repeat. I'm fine....not depressed or anything...I guess I just needed this unexpected cry (dealing with some sickness in my family) and was amazing by the power of this incredible song.

Thanks for listening...I hope some of this made sense!

Thank you!!!

I had very similar experiences when my dad first got sick right when HTDAAB came out. Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own helped me wrap my mind around my emotions through many many tears.

When ATYCLB came out, I just ended a nasty breakup after dating somebody for a few years; things got messy when a few friends got involved and I ended up divorcing myself of a group of 10 or so friends, actually moving to a new city....So the first time I heard Walk On was almost a religious experience for me. It's like U2 wrote that for me! A few years later, my best friend's brother got killed in Afghanistan. They sprinkled his ashes on a beach in San Francisco -- as my friend experienced all of this happening, there was a little kid flying a Kite right in front of him on that beach. Kite has become my song for my best friend.

Scary how deep some of these songs run with our lives, isn't it?
