NLOTH is about finding love in this cruel world.
I read it somewhere.

That's a deep pile you've left on my doorstep. "Paging all moderators for a clean-up. Bring a mop and a scoop."

Not arguing with what else has been said here, but I don't see the guy in the title track actually BEING a traffic cop. Either that line is from his dream - see previous lines 'every night I have the same dream..." or he's describing himself as a cop metaphorically to describe his current state of mind, or the traffic cop is one of multiple characters in the song. But it seems like a bit part and not thematic of the song to me. I lean towards theory one or two, especially.

Geez, that sounds kind of mean. I thought we were having a nice discussion. I'm not a sir, either, I'm a girl. I'm not sure what you want evidence of - I just put forth my interpretation of that part of the song given the rest of the song and the lines preceeding it. If you want to pick my brain more specifically, please indicate the direction you want. Otherwise you are welcome to disagree with me and to say why you do. But there's no reason not to be nice about it. The reason I like this thread is that up until this page it was a lot of stimulating discussion and not silly fighting.

If anyone can tie in "Cedars" to the rest of the album in a satisfactory way, I'll declare them the winner of the challenge before we even get to the natural conclusion of this thread.
I'll throw the gauntlet. Watch this move...
Every song on "NLOTH" dramatizes the act of transcendence, except "Cedars." The gate is sealed for him. "Return the call to home." Maybe not?
I think cedars is kind of the return to the beginning, leaving us off taking us back where we started

Dear Rock N Roll Girl,
I was being playful in the extreme. Please don't be so sensitive. I apologize for my swashbuckling, male need for clarity. No unhappy faces here. Kisses over the softest slopes of your knuckles.
Stoker.

Maybe we I should add a poll or something to liven this thread up.
The most intellectually active U2 fans reside at:
A) AtU2 B) U2 Interference C) U2.com D) None of the above. Intellectual U2 fans is an oxymoronic statement. E) AtEase.com
