I'll say one thing, they better have SOMETHING new to perform after 6 months off and another 2 more legs of touring next year.

Yeah man, I agree completely. Even if it's just some demos, unreleased songs, or an EP for crying out loud, they better do something. Or maybe the lesson learned is to keep your mouth shut. It seems every member in the band is on the wrong page, the only one who I haven't caught fibbing or exaggerating is Clayton. The band owes it to us to produce something. Why don't they challenge themselves again. That's what it boil down to. Why can they just tell themselves "we've got 5 months (give or take) to finish previous songs and write new ones, once that time is up, we're releasing what we've come up with regardless of if it's finished or not." I'm sure they don't want to recreate the 'massive failure' that the 'unfinished' Pop was (sarcasm).

Why do they owe us? Next years tour takes in a lot places (i.e. Greece, Turkey, Russia) that they didn't reach on this years tour. If they play the same songs again next year, skip the shows. What's it matter?

They don't owe us anything. It'd be awesome, obviously, but it's certainly not owed (despite 1000 years btwn Bomb and NLOTH). Honestly, the LAST thing I'd want is U2 to release a half-assed album a la Bruce Springsteen 'Working on a dream', that makes even the most devout fans cringe. This has the air of Passengers about it to me...ambient, artsy stuff that Larry doesn't wanna do Smiley

anyways, I'll ask them myself when I run into them when they come back to Vancouver to record the bleeding album...

they don't owe you thing one. this tour was projected to go through most of 2010 before NLOTH was even released.

They don't owe us anything, agreed. But at this crucial juncture in U2 history, it is folly to have talked about an album and even named it without producing it. The band already made the mistake of dithering with NLOTH. They can't afford to do it a second time and remain a band that makes hit records. Yes, true fans will buy their albums, yes, those who can afford them will buy concert tickets. But they need buzz musically -- the kind that gets them played -- and that is in short supply.

I love when people say how the band 'doesn't owe us anything.' They'd be the first to admit that WE put them where they are today. We're the ones waiting in line to see their shows, spending our 'hard earned' cash on them. If you don't think it's the fans that make a band succeed, you're just sadly mistaking. And it's about time they quit making music for the world and start making music for us fans. That's what I meant.

I always think that's a dangerous attitude for the band to have - it results in writing singles instead of albums and feeling obliged to play WOWY, SBS etc in every show in every tour just to appease the fans. I always believe bands should challenge their fans instead of pandering to them; and U2 USUALLY manage to do that.

I agree that they don't "owe us anything" for the most part, and I for sure don't want a half-ass album either.

My issue stems from the fact that even though they are hitting areas they passed last time on the first two legs of 360, they are essentially coming back to the states and playing the exact same shows. If they take 6 months off, mentioned "Songs of Accent" a hundred times and then show up to similar venues (New York, L.A. & Chicago) with the same set list, well then that kind of pisses me off.

Yes, I can skip the shows. Or I can be a good fan, go and still point out my displeasure with the strategy.

I still predict they have new stuff this summer.

Yes, because that would only be what they did in every single previous tour ever with the exception of ZooTV.  Okay, granted the "next album" stuff wasn't pushed as much on those tours, but it's not like 99.99% of people seeing them even know about that.

What happened to that talk about a release before the end of 2009? if they dont have something out by mid-2010...wow

there at least better be a couple of singles...and release more than one single before the release this time

Edge is being coy.  He knows it won't be an "album", but rather an EP.  Ha. Ha. Ha.

I think U2 are being coy. It makes sense to release SOA during the 2010 leg of the tour. It seems they just realize that mystery is important...and they are right.

I'd put money that they've got something close to being finished meaning they need a few months to get final versions, add 1 or 2 songs, take out a song and work on the song sequence, and the look and feel of the album.

But I doubt SOA "is just an idea" at this point.
