All the secrets, with no one to tell....

Yeah man, I agree completely. Even if it's just some demos, unreleased songs, or an EP for crying out loud, they better do something. Or maybe the lesson learned is to keep your mouth shut. It seems every member in the band is on the wrong page, the only one who I haven't caught fibbing or exaggerating is Clayton. The band owes it to us to produce something. Why don't they challenge themselves again. That's what it boil down to. Why can they just tell themselves "we've got 5 months (give or take) to finish previous songs and write new ones, once that time is up, we're releasing what we've come up with regardless of if it's finished or not." I'm sure they don't want to recreate the 'massive failure' that the 'unfinished' Pop was (sarcasm).

they don't owe you thing one. this tour was projected to go through most of 2010 before NLOTH was even released.

#@!

Actually, I agree that they don't think they owe us a thing, but I remember the days when they really did feel like they needed us. Now they can just d!ck us around by advertising the same soon-to-be album, or by playing the same old songs, and they know we'll keep coming back for more.

My hope? That they'll lose ALL their casual fans and become a cult band again like they were way back when. Trust me, we won't be waiting five years for a new U2 song if that happens.

I think Edge is being coy as well and its in the works just not finalized.  After any leg they're always pumped up and dying to get that energy out so it'll happen.  I don't think they "owe" or should feel "they should owe" us anything and they've more than dished out for me/ us.   I'd rather see them work on the album or EP for the art and joy of it and not worry about or make hit "singles".   Jam away boys and just do your thing!

I have confidence they'll release something interesting and hope to hear some of it live in 2010!   The question is more whether its released early in 2010 or say by May when the tour starts.  I don't think it'll be released before Xmas. If anything's released it'll be the U23D video or 360 Pasadena show.

Well Robert, "Every Breaking Wave" (as you call it) is more of an idea than something you can actually hear. It's not real, in other words (you know, like Santa Claus or the Matrix).

I thought that was a completed song they cut from NLOTH at the last minute. Q had a description of it based on hearing it during the recording process. At least we know they have ONE song ready to record Tongue

I doubt Mercy will make it. Unless they rework it.

"Winter" and "Mercy" have already had a release of sorts, though, so putting them on would be unprecedented ("Slow Dancing" never made it onto Pop...). Not gonna happen.

The real thing here is the claim in late 2008 that there were 50-60 songs for the album. Given NLOTH, "Winter" and "Kingdom", and assuming the low end of that figure, that leaves 37 songs. If the band has a "hit rate" of 25% of songs being album-worthy, that'd still leave 9 songs, i.e. a compact album, or else a pretty-much-done album that needs a song or two adding. I just don't see what can be hard about this.

but at least it was officially released...on God's EP

i think if they are not gonna release them, make them a bside to the next single.  And also, i agree here, what makes it so hard?

What happened to that talk about a release before the end of 2009? if they dont have something out by mid-2010...wow

there at least better be a couple of singles...and release more than one single before the release this time

U2 have become masters at stringing everybody along. Remember that NLOTH was supposed to be out in October 2008, and got pushed back to March. SOA supposedly was going to come out before the end of 2009. Any bets on when, if ever, we'll see it?
