Obviously was speaking mostly for himself when he talked about an upcoming album. If the band as a whole is not into pursing SOA, then they should drop it and move on to something else. Who has Rick Rubin's number?

I'm not terribly excited about Rick Rubin for U2. Especially when he worked with Linkin Park and is known for a 'Back-to-Basics' approach. That's not where U2 needs to be right now. What they need more now is a Close Encounters of the 3rd kind. Some crazy alien s@$t to apply to the music. It's time to add some different ingredients!
Maybe V will invade their studio and give 'em a new instrument from their distant planet.

Well they should have more than Every Breaking Wave and Kingdom done, found this in the old thread the Lost U2 Songs

Adam Clayton said to Mojo Magazine that Every Breaking Wave would have made the album far too long, but might be on the next one.
Winter is the third song on the Linear film. Some other songs considered for the album were
Tripoli, Velvet Heart, House, Songs of Ascent, If I Could Live My Life Again, Pilgrims Lack of Progress, Thank You For The Day, Every Breaking Wave and Anybody Is A Star.
No idea what happened to them, but they were recorded during the sessions, and might be on that next album.
by my count that would be 11 songs for the album not including Winter or the ever popular Mercy. However some of these songs my be from the Rubin sessions or the spiderman album.

I just wanna hear "every breaking wave."
Well Robert, "Every Breaking Wave" (as you call it) is more of an
idea
than something you can actually
hear
. It's not real, in other words (you know, like Santa Claus or the Matrix).
The Matrix is real. Free your mind, dude.

The reason I would like them t work with Rubin is that he respects the studio. Come in and have your sh** together BEFORE you come into the studio. Whoever it is, the band needs a bit of a taskmaster. Someone that has a very rock and roll sensibility, but that would also push them to cut loose with the "crazy alien s@$t".

Just reading everyone blogs and IMO believe that U2 is NOT looking to create another album...They have already made one great album that the public truly knows and that would be the Joshua Tree and possibly Rattle and Hum....besdies their hardcore fans who know more than that...To everyone the band just drop singles not album. If they heard U2 album it would be like "What's that song from the Grammys" or "That's the song I didn't know it was from this album...okay that enough". We have all been there with other non-U2 fans..
These men have reached the paramount of everything so why try to produce something original...I read a blog the other day that they will become eventual tour their greatest hits..I would like a new album similar to Springsteen and Bon Jovi but I don't think so...Im fortunate to have heard Bad, UTOTW, UC, and UF they are going to re-release and re-master like The Stones...
I would say this I think personally you would see Bono and The Edge more than Larry and Adam as a duo...or Bono rocking with some people...
