Actually JayZ on SBS is quite fitting.  Bono has been adding a rap-like thing  at the end of SBS this entire 360 tour.   And it has really given SBS some renewed power.  More in his passionate delivery during this rap.  I think he first started doing this right at the beginning.  Its in all the bootlegs.  Also its a powerful rockin political song, and Jay Z's rap style matches, his lyrics as well

Coldplay's combo w JayZ was pathetic.  Lost is yet another rather generic slow tempo ballad you expect from Coldplay.  Although they ramped up the drums in the mix.  The rap with this song does nothing for it.

[Chris Martin]
Just because I'm hurting,
Doesn’t mean I'm hurt,
Doesn’t mean I didn't get what I deserved,
No better and no worse

I just got lost
Every river that I tried to cross,
Every door I ever tried was locked
Oh and I’m just waiting ‘til the shine wears off

You might be a big fish
In a little pond,
Doesn’t mean you’ve won
‘Cause along may come
A bigger one

And you’ll be lost,
Every river that you tried to cross,
Every gun you ever held went off
Oh and I’m just waiting 'til the firing stopped
Oh and I’m just waiting ‘til the shine wears off

[Jay-Z]
Aha, I gotcha, uh...
With the same sword they knight you, they gon' good night you with
sh**, that's only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me? ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
See Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas
See Caesar, see Brutus, see success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified
Media meddles, niggas sue you, you settle
Every step you take, they remind you you ghetto
So it's tough being Bobby Brown
To be Bobby then, you have to be Bobby now
And the question is, is to have had and lost,
Better than not having at all?
Because I'm...

Chris Martin's limp lyrics lead JayZ nowhere to go but to take the word lost in not only a different direction, but to apply every meaning that the word has.  This is how limp Martin's lyricism is.  It is so illconceived and defined, with no real veiwpoint.

Compare what Jay Z came up with for Lost, and what he came up with for SBS, and it is clear JayZ has a definitive and direct understanding of SBS as a song about nonviolent Resistance, and a song against the ues of violence as an answer.  While JayZ's lyrics for Lost are scattered, ill defined, and vague just like Martin: "Just because I'm hurting, Doesn’t mean I'm hurt"?

REALLY?  actually hurting does mean you are hurt you moron.  something like just because Im wounded, or cut or struck would make sense.  But "hurt/hurting" is not one of those English words that has multiple or even nuanced meaning.  Then he proceeds to go through every greeting card cliche.  What is clever about Bono, is he never just simply uses a cliche, he twists them and often gives them the opposite or completely new spin within the context of the song.  Martin merely drums up old cliches and uses them exactly as you would expect.

I am hard on Coldplay because they have(had?) potential

"You were pretty as a picture"
 Grin

I agree with you on the whole, but Bono is guilty of same

"Just because I'm hurting, doesn't mean I'm hurt"

"I'll give you everything you want, except the thing that you want"
