I agree guys, U2 needs to have a fuller drum sound on record. Larry is a powerful, skillful and LOUD live drummer but he was kinda muted on NLOTH cd to me. I think U2 needs to work on putting the rhythm section back into the forefront especially as Bono's voice changes and grows older. They are not taking enough advantage of one of their biggest strengths.......a tight, strong and loud rhythm section!

Also they have to edit Bono more, he,Lanois and Eno have too much......leeway and influence?
Change producers in the next decade please!
New producers are definitely needed! And yes, U2 reaching for the stars and missing is better than most bands - who are just reaching.

Expect more bordom the next decade
Give me a break.  I'll take U2's "boredom over anyone else.  Band like Peal Jam, Radiohead, Oasis have been stuck in their own boredom for years, the same old music, album after album, catering to their diehards that they can't see how boring their really are.  At least U2 had the balls to do a trilogy like AB, Zooropa and Pop at the height of their career.  You call that boring.  And now the are heading in the right direction with NLOTH.  I'll take that over Backspacer.  At some point in your career you have to make an attempt to increase your fan base other than just playing to  your diehards but I think they these bands have been stuck in their own boredom for years they simply don't know how.  And they say U2 is irrelevant.  These band have been irrelevant for ages.(Except to their all precious diehards).
I'm talking about the last decade. it was full of boredom. The next will be more boredom. The 80's where good the 90's were masterful and brilliant 00 were boring, blan and lame. expect more boredom the next decade. They're not making any effort to wow us with absurdly good music just... boredom

Like is said, I'll take U2's boredom over anyone else and I don't think NLOTH is boredom.  It's better than anyone of those bands I mentioned above latest efforts.  I guess Radiohead decided to give their music for free because they no no one is going to buy their rubbish if they have to pay for it.

Have you listened to In Rainbows? It's a great piece of work, so is NLOTH.

I will expect nothing from any band. That's what I did with NLOTH and was very pleasantly surprised at the direction U2 took.

Ironic that these posts predicting U2's next boring decade are putting me to sleep.

Well, from their height of the Joshua Tree in '87 (making me feel old that there's members here that hadn't been born for a few years after that!! but none-the less, that's another's thread's debate!), we've had R&H, then Achtung Baby, which re-defined U2. To me, at the time, AB was a mind blowing experience and every album and tour since, to me, was compared to it. Im guessing people who just werent old enough or became fans in the 00s cant grasp that because they werent round to see the change.

So AB - huge leap up. Pop. Maintained the music and huge performance. ATYCLB and HTDAAB. Safe albums. Some beauties on both labums, but overall picture? Safe. NLOTH - a good attempt at reinvention. Bringing back the band up. Had they releassed their third album of the 00s as was the first two albums, we would have had a Rolling Stones right now.

Provided U2 dont start releasing albums for the sake of releasing them, I rekon it should be inteteresting, or  lese it'l be the likes of me just buying the album and seeing them live "just beccause I saw them in '87"

interesting Daveg.
I too hope U2 do not start releasing albums just for releasing sake. However one of my thoughts when they signed the 12 deal with Live Nation was, how are they going to keep releasing relevant, chart topping worldwide music into their 50s and 60s??

My fear is that their creative juice will diminish in the next 10 yrs. Also how much longer can Larry tour for, doesn't he have injuries after the end of each tour? I hope I am wrong about all this though and they will pleasantly surprise me.
Things will change over the next decade for sure
