The Next Decade??

I have to wonder - What happens next? A new decade is quietly but fastly approaching. I've always looked at U2 as three different bands in each of their three different decades. The '80's gave us the uplifting church choir sound. The '90's showed us how cool and 'rock-n-roll' they can be. The '00's brought us into a mainstream, modern rock era.
Now what about the '10's??? Obviously the new album and concert dates will take up most of next year, but then what? Do they go away and reinvent themselves again?
I think we got a small glimpse of it during this last year. I listen to songs like Boots and the remix of Crazy and I can't help but think that this is possibly the start of their new sound. Kind of a dance-rock sound - like what they were going for with Zooropa and POP but perhaps this time it will go over better.
Thoughts?

never know...U2's always been redefining what rock music is, it's hard to predict. judging by NLOTH, though, i would certainly say they're trying to include more dance and modern styles. maybe we'll even hear a bit more Bono rapping!
i personally love the direction they're going in. NLOTH is the AB of the '00s. but who knows!

When I think of "Window In the Skies" from a few years ago as well as "Moment of Surrender" and "Unknown Caller," I wouldn't doubt if they go into more of sing-song type of thing with Bono, Edge, and Eno all sharing lead vocals. It's an interesting time to be a U2 fan!

depends on a few things both internally and externally. No doubt the next album will be a reaction to NLOTH just as all their albums have been answers to the previous album. But, it also depends on what's happening in the world, musically and in world events.
No line was a slight break away from the previous 2 albums. But, I think they will have to, and want to do something different. If they want to remain a mainstream success they will need to write catchier songs that incorporate more boldly experimental sound palates. But Dance beats are not their biggest draw, so Edge is going to have to create a more wild, and interesting guitar sounds. I think they need to brink Larry's drums out in the forefront again as on Achtung Baby, and lower Bono's vocals just a little, except for on the lead singles perhaps.
Other than that - I have no idea what's in store! I just hope it's great!

If the songs they create are anything close to the ones you've mentioned, our ears are in for a treat.

Some people like to get bored over and over again.
They tend to get most excited when telling us how bored they are.
Imagine that life, your biggest thrill is describing you lack of thrills.
