You are so lucky SM!!
My youngest came home from school today and ran over to me and gave me the biggest hug!! I about lost it with joy!!
He's the only one who does that anymore! Sometimes my 12 year old is affectionate, but my 15 year old is not at all.
Threaten to take away his tv or online priviledges....That'll get you your hugs...Maybe even a peck on the cheek! ;-)

CG ill give you a point of view from a 14 year old on why we are not as affectionate
its almost like, between 13-16 we are realizing we can do more things than our parents are saying, its kind of us reinventing are goals over again. Its like at 11, i didnt know my town at all, i couldnt map it, by 12, i knew my area of town, now, i can bike ride to other towns, and onto the highway if i needed too. Its us trying to find new boundaries ON OUR OWN. its when parents have to start letting us try things because we want to be ready the time we wont have you with us.
well thats what it is like for me

I must be the most blessed parent in the forum. All of mine are still openly affectionate, giving and receiving hugs, even my son.
Big e-hug to everyone
Hug right back to you Down Under Sydney Mike!
My boys are 11 - very intelligent (takes after mom
), very stubborn, shy, quiet but will stand up for himself when necessary, always looking to invent something or start his own business, musical, likes to play baseball & football .
Younger one is 6 - very affectionate, caring, loves to read books and watch movies, loves to learn, enjoys playing soccer, very social - love to chat - mmmm.......now who does he take after here?
They love each other one minute then fight like cats and dogs the next. The younger one helps me and listens to me better than the older one does. Preteen moodiness is starting to set in with the older one YIKES!! I am only good with little ones.
So I may need lots of help here!!!!

My sons are 18 and 16, and my daughter is 14. My sons truly do not like each other, and are always fighting. The oldest will be going to college next year, which will be good for both of them. My oldest is kind of a lone wolf, and the 16-year-old is more outgoing, so each of them thinks the other is odd. My daughter can be very sweet or the biggest meanie ever. Typical teenagers, I think. At least I hope so!
I always thought I would be ready to let them leave the nest, but now that it's coming closer, I'm not so sure! Then other days, I am so ready.

It's a confusing position isn't it. Conflicting emotions pull you in opposite directions.

My oldest is on retreat with his class for a few days. The parents had to write letters to the kids that they will read at retreat(not out loud, each kid just reads their own.) We had to write about their strengths, our memories of them growing up, and our hopes for the future. I am not generally a crier, but I bawled trying to write that letter.
All of you with little kids, enjoy each moment. They grow up so fast!
