Well you have the freedom not to listen or react. It's like those people who complain about horrorfilms. Juts change the channel. But this is U2 one of my favourite bands since I was a kid. And I really hate to see the decline. I'm passionate about that. I hate it that they make very bland music. It makes me breathe smoke

how long has this band been producing bland music ( to you ) Johnny?
ever since they've released ATYCLB. before that they had balls.

And 8 long years later you're STILL out here crying about it?

Haha! This is what some people here live for: to complain about music they don't like.

In my opinion, Pop is complete cr*p except for Gone, LNOE, and Staring at the Sun..but Original of the Species is in my top 5.

well, that's u2 for you ain't it? some of us like the experimental, rougher, non-conventional sounding u2 of the 90's (and parts of no line), whilst others prefer the conventional, middle-of-the-road, song writing by numbers u2 of the htdaab/atyclb era. so i don't think original of the species is crap, it just doesn't excite me that much. sorry Smiley

miami is exactly right. Some people like the trendy, flashy, hipster side. The frosting, shall we say. While others gravitate to the old fashioned notion that great songs are all that really matters.

And Pop is full of those great songs you allude to.

Absolutely! All this high brow crap about how "great songs are all that matter (and I shall tell you what the great songs are)" is nonsense. Discotheque is a great song. Moment of Surrender is a great song. When Love Comes To Town is a great song. Mercy is a great song.  And to a lot of people, especially those who have children, Original Of The Species is a great song. I prefer the album version best. U2 has never been trendy. You can fancy a song up with French Horns, or extended arraignments and that gives you a complicated song, not necessarily a good song if it does not touch you in the heart (or at least make you move your feet). Cake is good. Frosting is good. Cake with frosting = great!
