Remove the cheesiness, the showman, the sometimes cornball Neil Diamond anthems and you'll be left with "12 Songs", produced by Rick Rubin. Check it out.

Before I give my list, I’ll have to say that I grew up with a lot of Neil Diamond, and I still think he is ok and loved it when the Edge did Sweet Caroline for Karaoke at the Popmart stop I went to.

My list (some of these change frequently):

1.   U2
2.   Radiohead
3.   The Who
4.   The Beetles
5.   Nine Inch Nails
6.   Calexico
7.   Andrew Bird
8.   Miles Davis
9.   Medeski Martin & Wood
10.   Pearl Jam

Others who pop in and out of my list: Elbow, Springsteen, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, White Stripes, Led Zeppelin, Neko Case, Johnny Cash... It just depends on my mood.

We've had many of these sort of threads before, but here we go ...

1. U2 - permanent placing
2. Radiohead - can't help feeling angry if someone ranks them above U2, don't ask why. Heh.

These are both kinda set in stone. Others that I like include Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Coldplay, but I have not discovered their music to make a fair judgement on 'em.
