I never read A Christmas Carol so I thought it would be good at this time of year, but I will be thrilled to read Mockingbird as well.

It's been a long atime since I've read 'To Kill a Mockingbird'.   I would love an opportunity to re-read it.

Unless you have to read it for school-- that comes first.

We'll pick an official night for everyone to meet, determine a co-lead for you and set the first reading assignment. We will probably do that in the next couple of days.

If anyone is a glutton for punishment and wants to have a night's discussion of A Christman Carol, I'd be of for it as we get closer to Christmas.

Can we read "Of Mice and Men" sometime in early 2010?

I might be up for discussing A Christmas Carol, too, since it's a pretty short book.

We can have a vote on it, at any rate. Are you asking because you have to read it for school?

I'm not sure I want the book club to become a "let's do other people's homework for them" thread. That was my reservation against voting for To Kill a Mockingbird in the first place.

That came out sounding more snarky than I intended, but I hope people see my point.

Uplate, I completely agree. Enough of us seem in agreement for Mockingbird that I think it is OK. And I want to encourage Shock or JT to colead. I don't mind discussing things about the book they might in class as long as they are active in the discussion and not just making side comments. I think we will know if that happens.

I appreciate you being upfront about it and I don't think you came off snarky!

I'm the only one who's voted for David Sedaris' darkly hilarious Holidays on Ice?  It makes my somewhat dysfunctional family look like the Cleavers!

I guess I shouldn't have a say, since I haven't joined any of the book discussions here yet. Embarrassed
