I've never understood the attraction of being "cool" - it seems a rather hypocritical place to be because it's pandering to the expectatations of others just as much as following the mainstream is.

Be yourself, and have the self-confidence to be as you feel is right.

U2 have never been cool, but they have always done what they wanted to do. I might not agree with everything, but I respect that they have done it all according to their own integrity - and that seems far more important to me.

U2 were never considered coo; in the early to mid 80s they didn't have the right look, clothes or music to be one of the 'cool acts'. Plus they were from Dublin, were earnest, political and were great friends. Not cool Cheesy

In the 90s they had some edge to them and their music. However as Bono political career has grown and as he has become huge outside of the music world, correspondingly they have lost some of their edge. It may also have something to do with them getting older, richer and more settled in the personal lives. To me The Edge plays better when he has personal turmoil!

They are cool people and a cool band, but their image and reputation is very, very uncool at the moment; old, they make rock music, etc.
