It doesn't sound as clumsy as the old version.

Sounds more... acoustic-like  :)

I like it.

Wow, miles better than the Linear version. I can't wait to hear the entire track. Bodes well for SOA if this is representative of the trajectory they're on now in the studio.

Actually, I prefer the old version.  It's a little haunting, and I think the Edge's part is better in the old one.

I guess it might just be me, but Bono is a little annoying in this song.

I think this song is awesome... my jaw literally dropped when I first heard it. Maybe SOA is closer than we think. Remember Zooropa was released between tour legs, it also had a song released in a movie and then on the album (Stay).

I think Winter being in the film (Brothers) but then not on the soundtrack is a good sign that the new album may be becoming closer to a reality (and no longer just a bunch of talk).

You know, it IS a great song! And I'm sure it gets even better all the way through. It just kills me that U2's own clumsy attempts at sounding "cool" (I'll Go Crazy/Stand Up Comedy) pushed this gem off of NLOTH? If "Every Breaking Wave" turns out to be as great as it has been described, I think Bono & Co. should listen to Eno and quit trying to make the next lame generic single and keep on trying to be just genuinely interesting! They used to push their audience, not chase them. Sigh.

The verses are great on both versions, though better in the new version. The chorus is weaker in both, but still a great song. The new Winter sounds like something perhaps off Songs of Assent.
