Title: Confession Time....
Post by: the_chief on May 18, 2017, 11:57:05 AM
I seriously dislike RHMT....

And always have done....

What is this big deal people have about it?

I always loved it and never understood why it didn't get any attention from the band.  The same was for Ultra Violet before the 360 tour when it suddenly was over-killed with affection by both the band and the fans.
the fact it was never performed has a lot to do with it, despite the fact it was a single from TJT and had a horrible video screaming homo-eroticism released.

WGRYWH is the next one i hope gets the attention it deserves.  If they ever do an AB tour, i expect this will be the track that gets a re-release.

It's a really strong song musically I think.
It has a real yearning/ earnest quality about it.
It fits the motif of the album very well too.

It's one of U2's finest moments but it's a shame Edge is playing it on piano on tour

It's just alright to me. I think I like SFS more though.

Absolutely love the album version of RHMT. Excellent lyrics...great vocals. To the op, I've heard other people admit that they don't like it, but not very often.

Really like it. Strong lyrically, vocally and sonically, as mentioned in this thread.

Has never been a song I cared for much. In fact, I struggle with most of the second half of TJT, with the exception of Exit (partial mention for One Tree Hill). How does Trip Through Your Wires and MOTD make the album when Wave of Sorrow and Luminous Times don't.

MOTD is WAY better than those. LT is good and album worthy but not at the cost of loosing MOTD. I know i'm in the minority but i love TTYW myself.

I always figured that MOTD got the nod as closing song on the album over Wave of Sorrow given the political aspect of it rather than the musical.

Along with Exit and RTSS, TTYW are my favorite 3 songs!

MOTD is probably my favourite song off TJT.

Rarely have U2 sounded as understatedly heavy and atmospheric - a direction I for one wish they would go down more.

Never done much with the song live though have they those corny oh oh oh's kill the vibe of the song.

So true.

They have this tendency to think every song is a stadium anthem. Please, no. Some songs can be really emotional for the crawd without having to 'oh oh oh' them.

Was just thinking about this thread, and why I love RHMT.
Have you ever been losing someone, or something, even maybe losing yourself, and holding on by the thinnest thread of hope or self...
It's U2 songs like RHMT that kept me hanging on during a very dark 5-6 year period of my life.
It's U2 songs like this, and others, that brought me back.
Okay...enough, Riffy!

I don't think that I can place MOTD over Exit, but I agree with anything else you say. I wish U2 didn't obsess over nailing the anthemic aspect for their more emotional songs.

I just read this quote, and thought of this thread, or should I say, I thought of the songs..."For happiness you need security, but joy can spring even from the cliffs of despair".

Thats quite alright. There are a number of u2 songs (mostly songs of this millenium), that many u2 fans rate, that i think are sub standard

I think it's alright.  Not one of my favorites, but it's not a bad song.
