Question #2: Right before The Joshua Tree Tour, The Edge told Hot Press that this person should be the next U.S. President.
Who was The Edge talking about, and what was the reason behind his choice?

Remember to PM your answer to me, and the first person to answer correctly will receive a new 12" vinyl single of The Blackout.
Good luck!

I think you could have it both ways. End the reselling of tickets online (I wish!).

But allow tickets to be be transferred (at face value) at Ticketmaster retail outlets. Both parties, the seller & the buyer would have to meet at a Ticketmaster location, with their ID. Tickets would be transferred for a fee, of course, TM needs their cut.

Yes, it would be a bit of a hassle, but at least it allows fans to trade/sell tickets at face value, & gives those who are unable to attend some way to get some of their money back.

Who knows, maybe some scalpers would demand more cash from the buyer on occasions, before the visit to the TM outlet, but I'm sure this would be very rare compared to the current resale market situation.

The only way to completely stop scalping is to make tickets non transferable (like airlines tickets).  You can't go? Tough, you are out the cash.

Problem is fans don't want that.  So.. you can't have it both ways.  If you want re-sellable tickets then guess what? You get to live with scalpers.

End of the story really.

As tickets are essentially barcodes now, the only thing that would be needed is some way to inform the ticket organization that you are not going. They scrap the barcode and can issue another one. You get a refund on the credit card or bank account minus a small fee like 5%.

This would be possible up to the start of the concert (eg. if you don't make it because your plane is delayed or in a traffic jam, you can still get the ticket refunded and they can sell your place to someone else at the venue ticket office.

I just received two box sets. It's either a mistake or I paid twice for the subscription. I can't remember.

Folks. I'm 34. I don't buy music. Its just a waste of money in general. I have an apple music account and listen to  the album there. If I had money to burn, I might have a record player and get a copy. But I don't like collecting stuff anymore. So...thats a bit pointless too.

So no point looking at sales. I presume most people are like me. Look at streams mind you.

Unfortunately, based on youtube, U2's streams for their new music are very low. U2's best performance vs other artist recorded music is still with album sales despite how small the figures are compared to albums released years and decades ago.

On a side issue:

I understand your reasoning for you personally for not purchasing music, plus given what has happened with technology and the internet. But I think artist deserve to be paid for their work. When I purchased Achtung Baby On Compact Disc back in November 1991, it was $15.99 + whatever tax. Adjusted for inflation into 2018 prices, that is $29.21, + whatever tax. The artist deserve to be paid for their work and they used to be paid for their work.

Imagine suddenly not being paid for the work that you do, or only being paid a fraction, maybe 10% of what you used to be paid. How would that effect you and the others like you?

Despite what is fair, technology and the internet seem to have permanently ruined the fair payment of artist for their recorded work. Its just too easy to obtain the music for free thanks to technology and none of the attempts to redress the problem have worked. Plus it is now culturally ingrained that there is nothing wrong with not paying for recorded music.

News and Rumors / Re: Quincy Jones thinks U2 under too much pressure.

Clearly, from reading Q's comments about the band - and Bono being his brother, etc - it would appear the man is fresh outta fucks and letting it all hang out. Then again, when you're 85, I would imagine the least painful thing at that age would be speaking the truth / sharing some wisdom with/about those you love before you shuffle off the ol' mortal coil.

However, I do find his comments about U2's musicmaking skills and there being "too much pressure on the band" kinda laughable, especially when you consider his reputation as one of the most renowned, demanding and skilled musical producers in the world and to whom "pressure" is something he's likely to have put on artists he's known.

As Chris Rock recently said during his Netflix concert:

"Pressure creates diamonds. Hugs don't. Try huggin' a lump of coal. Ya know what ya get? A dirty shirt."

So, really, I can't see "pressure" being a bad thing at any age if you're creative. Sure, as you get older, you wanna slow down and maybe take it a little bit easier on yourself ...

But if you're skilled or talented at anything, you can't expect to stay that way or past a certain point unless you keep at it.
