General U2 Discussion / Re: Will SOE be U2s last album
« Last post by b-mata on December 13, 2017, 11:23:53 AM »
I have a feeling that they have two more albums in them.  I think they will come faster than the past few, simply due to age and realizing time is short.

2020 for the next album and 2022 for the final album "Songs of Ascents" and the last tour... U22022: Can we Possibly get a few more 2's.

after Live Aid, Bono claims to have taken a drive in the countryside and happened upon a sculptor who was (serendipitously) working on a piece inspired by Bono's "leap" at Live Aid.

I also recall reading an article many years ago wherein Bono claims to have been pulled over by the police in Los Angeles

The Leap story probably is true.  I have heard this from more than one source/interview.  I think it happened a week or so later.

Don't know the 'Bono pulled over in LA' story but I could believe it given I've heard a number of stories about his driving.  Even interviews where he has said something along the lines of 'people wish I wouldn't drive'.  The best one is Ali driving herself and Bono to the hospital for the birth of their first child.  Despite being heavily pregnant, she felt safer if she drove them there (I think this one has come from Bono himself).

I hope SOE is the last. Next record will be EDM/hip hop with all female vocals. The Edge will have a 15 guitar solo on track 3.

Well, Bono is saying that he's fine and now 'singing like a girl' so there's a glimmer of hope that the next release will be such :)

No they want to keep being relevant (read the Stereogum interview) and Adam has pointed toward another release in his BBC Radio 2 interview.  I can't see them retiring.  The only way they'll go is in a coffin and recent rhetoric is that they are trying to hold off the latter as long as possible (Bono's had a shock and everyone is aware of their mortality following some high profile passings in the last year or two - Bowie, Prince, George Michael, Tom Petty etc).

News and Rumors / Re: Doctor who operated on Bono in New York found dead

That is incredibly sad for his kid.

In NO WAY want to belittle the tragedy... but I realize that I am far too much of a geek because I read the title "Doctor Who" operated on Bono...  been watching too much of the BBC Time Lord.   :-[

News and Rumors / Re: Bono and Edge Interviewed by Howard Stern
« Last post by b-mata on December 13, 2017, 11:03:15 AM »
I really liked this interview because, much like U2, Howard has been around so long that in his 'domain' he is not really scared to go anywhere with an interview.  That led to so many more probing question than your usual U2 interview and kept Bono from going too often to his usual rote answers.  (I've always found The Edge to give unique and insightful answers during interviews.)

Loved the talk about family relationships, band dynamics, and such.  Great interview.

The Music and Lyrics / Re: Which do you like better: Zooropa or Pop?

i'm really surprised this is so close.  I know Pop has always been highly regarded on here, but Zooropa is still Zooropa.

my opinion never really changed much. with any new u2 album, just like with any new star wars film, i'm going to want it to be great and my initial views will probably be the best, but i never really enjoyed No Line.
