General U2 Discussion / Re: Catholic Guilt & U2

Catholic guilt is the big part of the Irish emotional landscape. It has to seep in somehow.

I tried it... It looked cool... but it drained my phone battery from 50% to dead in about a minute. I had to plug it in to the wall outlet to charge my phone back up. Don't think I will want to do that in the concert. It would be seriously inconvenient for my phone to die or to have to keep it plugged into a portable charger.

This is obviously only for things like I-phones or smart phones. I still use the same old cell "flip-phone" that I purchased in the year 2000. I can make a call if I need to and I'm out somewhere other than home. That's the only thing I use it for. I'll turn it on and hold it above my head when Bono's ask us to during the concert.

I didn't know my father-in-law was a U2 fan!!!
Dn, is that you?
Dun Laoghaire? Yes?

The Music and Lyrics / Re: Thoughts on the new vinyl remasters?

The Pop one sounds cleaner.  I don't really know how to describe it, but the mixes don't sound as jumbled and there are minor sounds that I don't recall hearing on the originally CD version and other things that seem like they come through more clearly.  If you're a fan of the album then I think it's definitely worth the purchase.  "Staring at the Sun" and "Gone" both stand out to me as sounded much better.

I've only listened through ATYCLB once on vinyl and haven't burned the downloadable files to a CD yet.  Sounds good, but I haven't listened enough to determine how much better it sounds (if any) than the original release.

I haven't listened to the Wide Awake one yet.  I do have the benefit of having the original vinyl release to compare it to at some point.

I found and downloaded it on my iPad.  I couldn't find it in the Google Play Store on my aging HTC phone which probably doesn't support it anyway.

It worked on my iPad fine once I got into some decent lighting.  It also allows you to capture a picture of whatever is displaying which may come in hand during the actual concert.

My first reaction to the RS comment from Willie Williams was that I just want to hear them play some (expletive) music.  It seems like a neat trick I guess, but I hope its limited to one song like the reports indicate.  I don't really foresee it adding much to the concert experience, but I'm trying to remain open minded.

I can't believe Love Is Bigger is so damn polarising. To me, it's a great song. Not up there with their greatest or anything, but it's an emotional surge of a song and it leads up to the closing of the album so well. I'm amazed that so many people either really like it or just do not at all. It seems more people seem to dislike it actually. So strange.

I think it takes some people, myself included, more time than others to recognize a classic.   Im confident this is one of their best and it will ultimately go down as such.

Has anyone tried it yet?  NME tried it and it was too big a download and crashed the phone.  So not a great experience for them.
Is it a free app or do you have to pay for it?
It's free only takes 1 minute to download it's really cool
