Post by: Hawkmoon2e on February 14, 2018, 12:14:33 AM
Okay, let's try this...
Question #1: According to an October 31, 1998 @U2 news article, Bono once had a 36-letter Lypton Village name. What was it?

The first one to PM me the correct answer gets a new 12" vinyl single of The Blackout.
Look for another question next week

Congratulations to Symon_1989 for  the correct answer! And a special shout-out to Talie for being the first one to get it, but offering the prize to the next person because of already owning the single.
The U2 community is alive and well!

Keep an eye on our News section (at the top of the forum homepage) and this thread for the next 3 Thursdays for a chance to win.

A couple things to remember
-Please remember to PM me the answer
-We’ll pick a different winner each time

Thanks for playing.

What was the answer?  I'm very curious

Answer is here:
https://www.atu2.com/news/postscripts-from-the-edge.html

I was accepting some slight variations of the spelling on this one. So that's why I was specific in how I asked the question - not to ding anyone, but rather to cover everyone.

Question #2: Right before The Joshua Tree Tour, The Edge told Hot Press that this person should be the next U.S. President.
Who was The Edge talking about, and what was the reason behind his choice?

Remember to PM your answer to me, and the first person to answer correctly will receive a new 12" vinyl single of The Blackout.
Good luck!

Congrats to Mr.TheTim for being the first member to answer this.
The answer was David Lee Roth - because he'd scare the sh** out of the Russians.

2 down and 2 to go. Check back next week for another chance to win. But we're going to mix it up a bit - we'll take the first 5 correct answers to next week's question and do a random drawing.

Question #3: Six out of the following 8 names/words are directly connected with each other. Which two can be eliminated, and what is the common denominator with the remaining ones?

Anton Corbijn
Coconuts
Guggi
Ian Finlay
Mars Bars
Skateboards
Steve Averill
The Commitments

Remember to PM your answers to me, and we'll pick one winner randomly from the first 5 correct answers. Winner = new Blackout vinyl single.

Bass42 is our latest winner. Nice job for answering in the way I asked, and then some…

Of course we would have a War theme question this week, and Peter Rowen (kid on cover) was our way of doing it.

So for those of you keeping score at home, it goes as follows:

The first two on the list can be eliminated. Anton Corbijn was certainly involved back then, but not in the case of the album cover.
the Coconuts were of course part of the War album as backup singers, but by process of elimination… they had to go.

Guggi A.K.A. Derek Rowen – Peter’s bro.
Ian Finlay – Took that iconic picture of Peter for the album cover.
Mars Bars – That’s how he was paid for the shoot!
Skateboards – Peter became a skateboarding champ in Ireland.
Steve Averill - Steve Averill + U2 = album cover designs.
The Commitments – PR was a dude seen skateboarding outside a window in the flick. (Yes, I had to google this one myself.)

One more question next week. So keep ‘em coming. Thx all.

That Anton question was deceptive. Tough question to stump even the most dedicated fan.

Six out of the following 8 words/names have a specific connection with an associate of U2. Two of them, by process of elimination (in this case) do not. Which 2 should be eliminated, and who do the others point to? What is he/she best known for in the U2 universe?

Bible
Paul O'Neill
CBS
Dogtown
The Message
MTV
orange
Brown

Remember to PM your answers to me.

Like last week, we’ll take the first 5 correct answers – then it’ll be a random pick. Winner = Blackout vinyl.

Good luck!

Yup, the questions have been harder each week. Here's a hint; it's not Beck. But I liked the reasoning behind that answer.  ;D

I give up but I think it has to do with the making of Achtung Baby, Lovetone pedals and Eugene Peterson and/or Grandmaster Flash.

Eugene Peterson and Grandmaster Flash in the same sentaence? I like that. Focus more on the first answer in your guess... but think post making of AB.
Another hint: "Bible" and "The Message" are not one in the same here, and one of them has to be eliminated.

Congrats to akirch73 for answering this one.

The associate of U2 I was talking about is Bill Flanagan, and he's known for writing the book “U2 At The End Of The World.” So the 2 that had to be eliminated were Paul O’neill and The Message.

Bible – The book has a few unofficial names, like The U2 Bible, Flanagan’s Bible, and even The Orange Bible.

CBS – He appears on CBS News Sunday Morning.

Dogtown – A chapter in U2 ATEOTW book.

MTV – Writor and Director of MTV Networks.

orange – See above.

Brown – Flanagan graduated from Brown University.

Thanks all for your submissions, and that's a wrap for Trivia Thursday. We hope to do something like this again in the future.

I share his last name and I couldn't get this. It's just too hard.
