Title: Brand New Beck Remix of ‘Lights of Home’
Post by: The Slow Loris on April 15, 2018, 06:03:03 PM
I like it better than the original! But I think the strings version is still the best, hard to say though...

Ooh, I about broke my (metaphorical) leg getting to this. Has Beck done anything else with their stuff? On first listen, there were parts I liked better, but other things I preferred about the original. Will be giving this more listens, though.

I like Beck's remix work with French band AIR.

It’s good, nice and bassy.

It would sound really good in something like a bar-lounge or a beach club in the coming months.  It's very chilled and the 'free yourself' coda would be a memorable pick up.  Beck has done a really good job with the remix.

Another way of reaching out to different audiences.

Still prefer the St Peter's String version - but not by that much though - because it is a more 'complete' song and works well live.

Would love Beck to remix the entire record and produce the next one.

I'd really love for him to have a go at LIAWHL. The song has improved from "ugh" to "has potential" for me over time but I feel like Beck could totally fix it.

Would love Beck to remix the entire record and produce the next one.

He did great production work on a couple of Thurston Moore's LP's.

Where are you guys listening to this?

And LIAWHL is perfect as is. A stunning and compelling intro to the album with the oerfect bookend in 13.

ah ok i see the link on my computer now it wasn't showing up on my phone for some odd reason.

It's a fantastic remix. Wow. One of the best remixes they've done in recent memory.

I really do love how the closing is now the chorus and the chorus is now the bridge. I almost wish this was the official album version.

While I do like the album version, and the Beck mix is pretty good, it more or less shows me this song could have been mixed much better.  Is it me or does anyone else feel the album version sounds muffled, ie the band's instruments could stand out more, sound more clear?  It could have more energy.

Actually . . . . it was available on YouTube on April 15.  That is the day The Slow Loris started this topic and posted the link to the YouTube video.  But then . . . . . at some point after April 15 . . . . . the video was removed from YouTube.  I don't know what exact day the video removal occurred and I don't know who removed the video from YouTube.

As of right this moment, Lights Of Home [Free Yourself Beck Remix] is available for purchase as an individual track from the iTunes Store.
I just bought it and I'm so happy it was made available as an individual track.

Agreed.  The Beck mix is probably the best, if he was able to keep the solo in there in would be flawless.  Also the ambiance is superior to any other mix of this song and frankly any other song on the album.  I'd like to see Beck do a full U2 album.

It's not bad, but I'm more happy with the strings version on the deluxe album.

Strings should have been on the album in place of the original.

I would have preferred so, yeah. But I like the album version too.

The "muffling" is Jacknife Lee's aesthetic. If you listen to other of his productions, it shows up there, too.

Live BBC version is the favorite for me...I wish they would bag the keyboard or pre-recorded strings and either bring along a string section or even better, get the local high schools to compete for the role in their respective cities-towns. Yeah, probably not...but, yes, I prefer string version. AIWIY is superior as well with live strings, right?...BBC performance was awesome~

It sounds like the air went out of the room at certain times. You are 100 percent correct.
