Title: Julian Lennon: New U2 album "mid to late next year" using Julian Lennons Art

Quote from article:

"I've talked to the U2 boys to ask when I can release all of these," he said. "I'd very much like to put a book together but they've asked me to hold back. They're considering using the images for their artwork on the new album. It should be out mid to late next year."

He also confirms, as we all probably suspected, that the Edge DOES in fact take his hat off occasionally.

THIS IS SO EXCITING (if it's actually true.  At this point I'm not sure what to believe! Maybe I shouldn't get my hopes up).

Even if it is true, it says 'mid to late' next year, not 'early next year'......still a lot of waiting to do......

I think its definitely true since he doesn't have any reason to make things up. BUT, that doesn't mean its definitely coming out in 6-9 months or whatever, since they can always change their minds.

True, plus if a late 2013 release is happening, we get to look forward to the hype build up over next year too - i don't mean Bono's hyperbolic "Edge is on fire" statements, but stuff like magazine interviews with the whole band, song previews/descriptions, stories from inside the studio, maybe even some videoclips from the studio like they did for NLOTH etc...
I love all that pre-release hype, and we probably won't have to wait until autumn next year for it - i'd say between april and june we'll start getting more and more info, certainly more than we've been getting in 2012.

Another reason to look forward to summer! Better kick my savings into high gear for the summer 2014 Bucket List check off of me following around U2 on tour and hopefully in Dublin for the highlight!

Nice photo of bono too.

Is it really unrealistic for there to be an album in late 2013? That will be 4 and a half years since NLOTH, and more than 3 years since bono first mentioned the band was working with danger mouse on a new album. Given the gaps between pop, atyclb, htdaab, and nloth, 2013 seems far more likely to me than 2014.

Only other option i can see is them hitting that 'rich, songwriting vein' again in late 2013, and postponing till early 2014... which i suppose is a possibility, but given the time in and out of the studio since 2010, i don't think it would happen.

Julian Lennon is not a "veteran U2 forum fan."

He is probably just one of the "newbie eager fanboys" who believe what U2 say hook, line, and sinker.

2013? Not a chance.

Cheers,

J

Most of us do remember your record of getting almost every prediction wrong throughout the latter part of the 360 Tour, so... we'll see.

For the record, I think their early aim will be to get it in December 2013, so it'll be out in early 2014.

The thing is, if you read the article, it says that U2 told Julian Lennon not to do anything with most of his pics because they're thinking about using them for the album.

My perspective is that I imagine U2 has a lot of respect for Julian and wouldn't just give him some wishy washy "yeah...it'll be out next year...maybe" if they didn't really expect that to happen, because they're asking him to just sit on his own work. Then again, his work wouldn't have much meaning if it weren't for them in the first place, so you could say they should have the right to tell him whatever they want, but still...I would hope that my initial instincts hit close to the truth.

The only problem I have is that I really think U2 sincerely believe themselves when they give dates for releases, etc.  I don't know if their over optimistic about their dates or a bit OCD about the quality of their work (guessing the latter), but just because they may be sincere about getting an album out in 2013, doesn't mean it will happen.

Julian's not allowed to release his photos because he's the first person to ever get photographic proof of The Edge on fire...

He's a cat. He can't hold a camera. Though I would like to see his setup for web browsing and typing.

The new U2 stage is taking shape

According to sources very close to U2, the new stage at the next tour group is taking shape. Chris Howell, sound engineer has declared last week that he had spent a month in a giant warehouse on the outskirts of Dublin with other technicians and workers, to try the new acoustic dimension of the forthcoming tour of the Irish group. Chris did not specify whether Bono & C. were present, but his statements seem to understand that everything is ready for the return of four Dubliners and the show will be 'first "indoor".

It kept falling off unfortunately. The Edge is gonna try sticking it to his beanie next tour, but he's a bit afraid everyone will find out he keeps staring at Adam's butt.

I want to believe this news, but considering the fact that that blog seems about as reliable a news source as a random poster on this forum, it's hard to know what to make of it.

Has anyone ever heard of Chris Howell before? I can't find anything about him searching on Google.

That's very exciting news! I really hope it's actually true (and that if they do that kind of tour, they don't forget to come to South America, like they did with the Elevation tour...).

I just found another article in my Facebook news feed from a Spanish site called "U2FanLife" that says Paul McGuiness says we can "expect a new album in 2013".

http://news.u2fanlife.com/2012/12/u2-celebra-la-navidad-en-dublin-y-el-senor-mcguinness-nos-dice-que-esperemos-nuevo-disco-de-u2-en-2013.html/

And here's the link to the original article (in English): http://www.independent.ie/lifestyle/independent-woman/celebrity-news-gossip/christmas-a-beautiful-day-for-bono-as-girls-come-home-3333221.html?ino=2#wcol

Quote
Asked whether fans can expect a new album from the band next year, McGuinness told the Irish Independent: "2012 has been very busy. There's always activity, so certainly expect a new record."

Although, McGuiness said, back in mid 2010, that there was probably going to be a new album by the end of that year, and yet nothing happened.

It's tough being a U2 fan, y'know.
