A dream has almost come true....
Three years ago when U2 were in New York for their I&E tour, I waited with countless other fans to meet them on July 18, 2015. When Bono came out, he signed my sign and Billie Holiday postcard. I am so shy, but I wrestled up the courage to tell him that I am U2's #1 fan (everyone says that), that I grew up in Harlem, and wished that they'd come perform at the Apollo Theatre. When I met Edge, I also asked him about the Apollo. Today while at work, I received a text from a friend informing me that U2 will perform at the Apollo this June (sponsored by Sirius). I want to be there! I've seen them in different cities, but the Apollo would be my fondest memory, for sure! I grew up not too far from the Apollo, and U2's music has inspired me, given me hope, as well as entertained me. I have to be there!! Romona (aka angelofharlem4u2).

I wish they would play Liverpool again.  I was a young child when they played Liverpool on my birthday in 1981 and so had not heard of them at the time.  The venue they played at (Royal Court) has been reverted back to a working theatre since the opening of the arena in the area.  There are other venues similar to how the Royal Court used to be and it would be great if they could play Liverpool again on my birthday.  A smaller venue would be nice, but the Echo Arena would be good too.

Maybe Jimmy Fallon's Band can assist with Angel of Harlem and When Love Comes To Town.

They are The Roots, and are waaaaaaaay more than Jimmy Fallon's Band.

Yes, The Roots.  I'm pretty disconnected from that scene, but I do remember a fantastic Angel of Harlem collaboration some years back.

Great performance. I think they might have to rehearse for this on tour if they are going to pull out some special tunes. Reminds me of 2009 Rock Hall and 2015 Roxy gigs.

I don't have the link handy but Adam says Edge is cooking up a set list (and it's not the same as the E+I set list but special to this show).

I'd bet on Angel of Harlem, Still Haven't Found, Stuck in a Moment.

I feel like there could be a surprise of something from Boy/October/War/TUF era. Drowning Man, Two Hearts, ASOH

Not a chance on the surprise front. It'll be the new album, Angel, Stuck, Still Haven't Found. MAYBE something like Love Rescue Me or another 'Americana' song from R&H, but I seriously doubt it. I think it will basically be the same set as E+I with the more screen-heavy songs out and the few minutes above in.

I know what Adam said, but Adam has been proved wrong before. I've said it a million times: If you expect something radically different from U2 during a tour because of some special circumstance, you are going to be disappointed.

Yeah I figured Stuck because it has that soulful vibe, plus they rehearsed it recently.

Ok probably not Drowning Man, but maybe Two Hearts or something. I'm thinking "surprise" because of when they did that Roxy show and played 11 O'Clock Tick Tock. Some early 80s song they haven't played in while.

They can cover a song by Curtis Mayfield, People Get Ready.  Or, Ben E. King's Stand By Me.  Hawkmoon 269  or Walk On accompanied by back up singers. On another note, I have an itinerary for them:

Sunday in the AM - Take in church services at Shiloh Baptist Church
Brunch at Angel of Harlem Restaurant
Soundcheck at the Apollo
Dinner at Sylvia's

Monday in the AM - Visit the Schomburg Center
Review the Works Progress Administration's Federal Art Project at Harlem Hospital
Lunch at the Red Rooster
Another soundcheck before the show
Start the R&R show - with SOUL!

I have a delusion that I am going to win this.  I live in Los Angeles.  My last day of school is June 8 and I am backpacking June 9 & 10.  Someone asked for my help on the 11th and I said, "I'll help if I don't win a contest."  Crazy, right?  I don't even have a ticket or place to stay there.

Keeping hope alive....

This is what I was thinking of. The Roxy show was shorter and diverged greatly from the tourís set list at the time.  Little tech and songs that could be pulled off without much tech. At least without much of the visual part.

There's a logical correlation

Being hardcore enough to run a fan site -> Being hardcore enough to put in the required effort to be competitive in trying to win the tix

No conspiracy needed

Zoo TV OB Bono sang almost the whole thing (Love Comes to Town) himself. I can hear somebody else sing the title words just once but I don't know who it is. It sounds like he stuck the mic in front of one of the other guys for a few seconds. Like maybe Adam, dunno.

EDIT: In the interest of research, I watched it (never did before):

1) I was right, he stuck the mic in front of Adam for that line!
2) I did not realize, but Edge sang the Crucify verse (also initiated by Bono sticking the mic in front of him). It was sung in a different way but I always assumed it was Bono just mixing up the singing style. Duh.
3) Bono plays guitar for about 1/3 of the song before abandoning it, which happened often, and which isn't even noticable.

OMG! The agony and the ecstasy. On June 9th in Uniondale, I asked Bono for a ticket to the Apollo show because I grew up four blocks from the venue, and he said "You're from Harlem?"  I said "yes." His reply: "Then you're in," and told me to give my information to his bodyguard, Ian. The weekend came and went with no updates.  On Monday morning, I get a text from a fellow fan/friend who knows Brian Murphy, who had called her to ask about me.  My contact said that Brian Murphy will see what he can do, but he made no promises.

I went to the Apollo after work and got on the "stand by" line - I was #51!  I approached big bodyguard Ian when he came out, and he had remembered me. He told me that he had forwarded the information, but would check again, but could not make any promises. I wanted to cry, seriously, but not in public. Then he came out with a woman who had a handful of tickets.   Some people ahead of me on line wanted to know why big bodyguard Ian came to me, and he said that I was a "special" case. When the lady asked me if I was alone, I motioned to a lady whom I had met in 2015. This fan arrived at 1 pm to be on the stand by line. I was not expecting more than one ticket! We ran because we heard music, then the ushers had told us that the band was not yet on stage! We ran for the stairs, and my colleague said that she had to use the restroom. After that, she wanted cocktails, and I became anxious! Lol.

We made it to the seats just in time. My colleague pointed out Jon Bon Jovi, Robert Kraft, Kristy Turlington, Mrs. Paul McCartney, Jared Leto, none of whom I was interested in, lol. We were on the LL MEZZANINE. The crowd was electric. Red Flag Day at last! A wonderful view of Edge!! I was not aware until after the show that the stand by line people were selected randomly, not in numerical order. I was starving after the show because I only had Starbursts in my bag (I came straight from work)! I caught Whole Foods before they closed, and was up most of the night. Above all, I believe that my friend/fellow fan advocating for me helped, which allowed me to help another fan get in when I was offered two tickets.

Always dream out loud...

Glad you got in!!!!!  We were first row balcony in the center.  You must have been nearby because Kraft and Bon Jovi were 2 rows behind us.  By far the best rock show and best U2 show I have ever seen and will likely ever see!  So many special moments but Wild Horses was the climax for us.  One of my favs and they nailed it!
