I think the chorus reminds me of Queens of the Stone Age. I'll check on that.

Okay, on a second and more awake listen:

There is a definite 1960s spy record vibe to it thanks to the lower key and the minor chords and the way Edge fingers in the bridge (I love spy songs so that's very cool.)

For comparison, listen to Spybreak! by The Propellerheads or Spy Song by Ryan Drolet.

There's a little bit of "Pump It Up" in it -- I have that in my playlist ahead of GOYB -- but mainly in beat terms and a little bit of the guitar riff

Straight to Number One? (The chart listing, not the song :)

in true U2 fashion, the song doesn't immediately grab me but the more i listen to it, the more I like it.   I can already envision a GoYB-Vertigo double shot at a future show.

So much better than I expected!  8)

I don't get the comparisons to Vertigo. That song was straightforward. Get On Your Boots has so many layers.

It's so complex and layered.

I agree that Boots is much more complex and layered (and good) than Vertigo...I just think Elevation, Vertigo, and Boots all share a similar vibe.  They all have 70's crunchy opening guitar riffs, are extremely upbeat, place more emphasis on rhythm than melody,  are intended to be lighthearted/bubblegum pop singles, and have silly lyrics.  I wouldn't describe any of them as "beautiful" songs--and I wouldn't say they're trying to be.  While many remember "The Fly" for its abrasive opening and its distorted, unusual lyrics...don't forget how intentionally beautiful the chorus was.  In taking the band in a new direction, I'd say it's more "The Fly" than "Vertigo"--musically though, it's definitely more "Vertigo".

I like it though.  Remember (no matter how many times we listen to it) it's only been out one day.
