I agree with most of what you said. He used to be able to do all that he does now (although he is doing far more philanthropic work in the decade just passed) and still be cool, in the sense that he used to be sutble about it not showing up at political confrences or anything like that. I also think that the, somewhat unspoken, fact that the band almost carried the US's woes on its shoulders after 911 is something NO ARTIST should do. Bono used to think that way, I am reading Bill FLanagans (sp?) book from the early 90s and Bono used to always do stuff more subtly and with more savvy. I think that now that hes almosrt inhis 50s he feels he doesnt have to put up a kind of barrier (black shades, beig funny or wity when talking to people about anything)  or rockstar persona, but that fact is thathe IS a rockstar and he should be more carefull of what he says or does. But like you I agree with almost evrrything he says or talks about, almost.

He just needs to give nonU2 fans and joe public less to chew over, in a manner of speaking. ;)

I think Bill Gates is the most remarkable man of his generation and Bono is not far behind.

I would like to take Bono shopping.  Wearing ill fitting clothes and platform shoes, draws even more attention to his height.  Which, he seems to be self concerned.  And Bono shouldn't be.  At 5'6" or 5'7".  He isn't the shortest man on the planet.  And is still several inches taller than the average American Woman.  ( Over fifty percent of us are exactly 5'4".)  Besides, plenty of very attractive men in the U.S.  Are the same height as him.  Since, we are ethnically diverse.

It's like this human league song was written for Bono:

Since I was very young I've realised
I never wanted to be human size
So I avoid the crowds and traffic jams
They just remind me of how small I am
Because of this longing in my heart
I'm going to start the growing art
I'm going to grow now and never stop
Think like a mountain, grow to the top
Chorus :
Tall, tall, tall, I want to be tall, tall, tall
As big as a wall, wall, wall, as big as a wall, wall, wall
And if I'm not tall, tall, tall, then I will crawl, crawl, crawl
Because I'm not tall, tall, tall, tall, tall, tall, tall, tall
Tall, tall, tall, I want to be tall, tall, tall
As big as a wall, wall, wall, as big as a wall, wall, wall
And if I'm not tall, tall, tall, then I will crawl, crawl, crawl
Because I'm not tall, tall, tall, tall, tall, tall, tall, tall
With concentration
My size increased
And now I'm fourteen stories high
At least
Empire State Human
Just a born kid
I'll go to Egypt to be
The pyramids
(Chorus) over :-
Refrain 1 :
Brick by brick
Stone by stone
Growing till he's fully grown
Brick by brick
Stone by stone
Growing till he's fully grown
Refrain 2 :
Fetch more water
Fetch more sand
Biggest person in the land
Fetch more water
Fetch more sand
Biggest person in the land
(Refrain 1)
(Chorus) over :-
(Refrain 2)
(Refrain 1)
(Refrain 2)

Although more likely it was written for Ian Mcculloch.

I love the Pop Mart look. I want my rock stars to look like rock stars, not some grunge bad. I like flash, but I know it is not everyone's cup of tea. You do have to admit though that Bono is in great physical shape during that tour. I think sort hair looks better on both Bono and Larry, and makes them look younger. I am not particularly crazy about the band's wardrobe for this tour in general. Hate the patchwork jacket that Bono is wearing and the plaid shirts that Edge is sporting. Seems like Bono was toying with something for awhile with the eyeliner and kilts, but it never really showed up.

The huge number of threads just on this forum over Bono's fire sharing comments (well into the dozens already) shows that, whether you agree with him comments or not, that it might have been a great move, from a PR perspective, for a band who has admitted to being disappointed in the sales of their last album.

Then again, Bono IS Bono.
