One of the great things about the Super Bowl is every year they put out a list of the top 10 half-time shows, and every year U2 is at the top of the list.

Even tho we are biased, I think they're totally right.
I didnt watch it live, but I've watched it recently on YT & I got chills. On youtube. Amazing.

Usually I agree to watch the Superbowl with folks "just until halftime" and leave as the show gets going.  When U2 was the act, I stuck around for the whole gig.  Seeing all those names from September 11 is permanently ingrained in my memory.

I disagree with Sports Illustrated and think Prince and Bruce put on the best shows.  Most of the others including U2 just play 3 songs straight and then that's all folks.

What U2 did was completely appropriate for the first Superbowl after September 11th.  That's why it was such a powerful performance.

It made America forget about the sorrow of 9/11...and even the game for 15 minutes :D

I am biased, but would put U2 at the top and Prince and the Boss in a tie for #2/#3.

I thought Tom Petty was quite good, but I have to share a story.  The day after the Tom Petty halftime show, my daughter went to middle school (I think she was 11 or 12 at the time) and the question on the bus was "Who was that old guy?".

Even though Pete Townshend had a lot of energy, the same would be said for this show.  The singing was off and the sound mix on Pinball Wizard was terrible.  The light show was quite good, but for some reason it really bothered me that no fans were anywhere near the stage (like they were for U2, Rolling Stones, Prince, etc.).  I know that the show is being done for the camera and the TV audience, but the U2 performance clearly linked the band with the live fans at the show, plus the ones watching on TV.

Yes, as I said with New Orleans this year, it was way more than just a game or halftime show.
