I didn't find any thread relating to this, but if I missed it, point me in the right direction or feel free to move the thread.  I put the "persuade" in quotes because everyone has free will, but lets face it, sometimes we want to try to persuade our family members/friends here to the U2 side. I bring this up because my violin teacher (she's 20) has never really listened to U2. It turns we have an agreement of what rock is-guitars, bass, and drums. She has me listening/trying out White Stripes and this week I gave her Boy to listen too-gotta start somewhere! So I have to ask-has anyone ever tried to persuade friends/family into listening if they haven't been already? Success? Failures? And anyone who got "turned"-please share why!  ;D

My sister-Epic Failure
My brother- Success

My brother (13 years old now) HATED U2 because of me when I first started getting into them about 5 years ago.  But over the years, he's slowly but surely been listening to more and more U2 and now he proudly calls himself a fan :)  He wants to come with me to Philly to see U2 in GA and he even did a music project a few weeks ago where he had to play a song, break down the meaning of the lyrics and the music, and even SING along.  He picked Beautiful Day, our favorite song :D

I don't bother trying to convert people to U2 or any other band/artist. If I'm playing music when people are around and they're curious about it, I let 'em know what's up.

That's about it.

I used to, but if I were to continue I'd alienate a lot of people.

i tried to get a friend of mine to like them, i put First Time on a mix cd i made her in 04, and she loved it cuz it wasnt, yknow "gay U2" as she so eloquently put it. Then she proceeded to lambast the group to all her "cooler" friends, in front of me. to be honest, i really just don't mention my love of U2, pink elephant in the room, no one wants to address it.

oh....i also gave my friend all the 80's, and AB, albums on a flash drive, over a year ago. So far he's listened to SBS, One, most of Boy. That's it. WOW. What a mistake that was. another reason i don't mention or share U2, i get outraged when they openly ignore it after ive gone outta my way to share it with them, and listen to 1, maybe 2, of the biggest singles. waste of my time.

1 more sad pathetic story. My dad got me into U2 in 87 when i was 6 when JT, and bought Pop for himself in 97, which <though i hate that album now> was what got me into hardcore-U2 fandom, anyways he also hates the group, mainly for Bono's vocal tendencies in the media. Sad that the man that got me into them hates them now.

So no, conversions are at a fat zero.

I tried to persuade someone to like U2, big mistake.   She thought I was a total loser and said U2 are not cool enough to listen too.  So I didn't try to get anyone to listen to them again.  :(

it's worked a few times for me. annoyed a few people, but my friends and ... grade just got used to it eventually :D. I try not to overdo it, and don't usually.
