When I hear the song, get one sense of meaning, and then when I heard MirrorBall Man sing it (on FB!  ;)   ) , it became a whole new meaning of song....why?

I think in keeping with the character - its the desire for money, money, money, money that's highlighted and brought to the forefront by the ZOOTV version.

I think that is the beauty of Bono's lyrics. They frequently can be adapted to various situations. WOWY can be about a significant other, then later with Mirrorball Man he talks about how it became about the audience. BTBS has had many different applications since JT-America's policy in South America, gun control (or lack thereof) in America, the arms dealing of the UN, the Middle East, etc. One has also gone through similar adaptations.

I always thought the Mirror Ball Man was a "preacher stealing hearts at a traveling show".
