Why not South Korea TD?

I think Seoul would be a brilliant place for them to play. They have stadiums galore and an incredibly passionate attitude when it comes to live music. There's also a decent US military presence there that would sell a few thousand tickets.

I think it could work, close to Japan obviously as well...

In the last couple of years, Iron Maiden and Metallica have each played that stadium as well. Metallica was there less than 2 months ago, and they set the attendance record, thanks in part to all the Chilean fans who came over since the stadium in Santiago was damaged in the big quake.

U2 really need to think about doing a few Indian gigs. They would pull massive numbers there.

Good reasons sure, but mark my words.  The way things are going it would be cause for celebration if they played Perth WA or even made it to Australia.

Oh, I agree on that front.

I'm assuming that if they make Japan, Korea isn't exactly a stretch

I doubt U2 will play India anytime soon. My reasoning: security and logistical challenges

Have to take into account the fact that ticket prices in India would be out of reach for many locals. If U2 can't make money, they won't tour. That's just business fact.

The Rolling Stones played in India in 2003 on the Licks tour.  If a band as mercenary as the Stones did then I don't see why U2 wouldn't solely from a business perspective.  Not that I think they will.

what does "many locals" mean in a nation of 1.5 billion people? Their middle class is as big as the entire population of the USA. Yeah, the security situation post-Mumbai would probably deter them, though. :(

anyway, Iron Maiden's done a few shows in India over the last 3 or 4 years, and they pulled huge crowds at each date.
no one's seemed to comment on the bit about U2 contacting venues in cities that weren't on the 2010 itinerary. hope it's really happening!

Sarajevo was a one-off and a very different situation - it's not really comparable. I don't think that U2 see India the same way they saw Sarajevo in the mid-nineties.

There's not a lot of artists that do shows in India.  So regardless of who's performing, Indian people will attend.
