U2 is not a rock band in my opinion! They are much better!
I would say that in ATYCLB many songs are Pop-songs.
NLOTH is definetely no pop-music.
Boy is some kind of punk. And rattle & Hum for example has a bit of country and blues. I would not put U2 in a genre!
One of the reasons I love them is that they are influenced by so many genres and that aren't just a Rock band like Bon Jovi etc

I've read few groups on Facebook that hate U2 and a lot of the comment were like: I HATE BONO and U2 IS NOT A ROCK BAND!!

They think U2 is pop -.-

I think the band transitioned from being a rock band after Achtung Baby. They haven't put out a "rock" album since then in my opinion.
.    If you were going to label u2 as a genre of music, they would be labelled 'rock'. Although labels never sum up the whole experience of something, u2 are clearly a rock band. Equally their band make up of guitarist, drummer, bass player and singer suggests a rock band. The u2 brand has changed little from their early days. They've just found superficial ways of marketing it in a different way. U2 have always at heart been a rock band. NLOTH has done nothing to change this...

hmmm... in this case they are a rock band!

But in any other way they are totally different! Their music is mostly not rock music. And the way they behave as a band and their lifestyle is totally anti-rock in my opinion.

Zooropa and Pop are definitely not Rock in my opinion!

If you consider the basic genres in music (dance, rock, hip hop, soul etc), would you say U2 as a band fall into the 'rock' category?

Pop is a rock album with the odd drum machine and some samples. It's a pretty good album but it's still a rock album. Is Gone a rock song? Last Night on Earth? Zooropa is a rock album with a very European sensibility.

What's wrong with being a rock band!?

When I have to decide between dance, rock, hip hop, soul etc I woudl choose Rock!

And I don't have anything against it! There's nothing wrong about being a rock band!

But I think that U2s music is more than that!
