Are we hearing the influence of It Might Get Loud?
« on: August 20, 2010, 08:41:38 PM »
Listening to the new songs the band is performing like "Glastonbury and The Return of the Stingray Guitar" ... and hearing "HMTHKMKM" making a comeback ... I cant help but wonder if maybe Edge is enjoying his  simply, crunchy riffs a little more these days since associating with Jack White and some guy from Led Zeppelin?

Maybe . . . but I suspect people would have been making the same statements about the sounds on Vertigo, Love and Peace, All Because of You, etc. had that film been made shortly before How to Dismantle was put out.

Either way, I like it and hope Edge keeps it up . . . and Bono can come up with stronger lyrics and vocals to keep up with Edge.

hasn't Edge been co-writing the lyrics for a while now?

Has he? Then he's got to step up his game as lyricist as well.

For sure. Not so much fro Mr. White, but there is Zepplin influence dripping from the riff in Glastonbury.

I always thought that too, especially when it comes to the solos in Breathe, MoS and UC

That would be Jimmy Page. Show some respect.

But to address your point, I really hope so. I love Edge to pieces, but he has been way too reliant on gadgets. My oldest could play him under the table any day and she doesn't have access to half the cool guitars and accessories that Edge has. Hell, Edge could buy her best guitar with his pocket change (it's a '68 Les Paul Standard that I saved for-freaking-ever to get for her) but he couldn't do half of what she does without Dallas and more electronics than NASA.
